What's up with OSXAudio?

What's up with OSXAudio?

2005-06-30 by Ben Stuyts

<delurk>

Hi,

I like to get my daily dose of information from groups like this, the
LUG, etc. But does anybody know what's up with www.osxaudio.com? Did
anybody see an announcement beyond the banner that's currently being
shown? Just like to know the gravity of the situation.

Thanks,
Ben

I know for a long time osxaudio was trying to get a server machine
donated and they recently got one, I think the plan was to host their
own site. Perhaps they are in the middle of the transition.
*being optomistic*

I love that site!

The page I'm seeing now is that of a freshly setup webserver with no content.
(Running on Linux, not OSX). ;o) So yeah that looks like the domain
registration etc has been transferred but the actual site hasn't been
installed on the server yet.

I'm an audio guy so this kind of thing is fuzzy for me- but can't you
make a Linux boot partition on a Powermac?

Sure can, as long as its a PPC flavor of Linux youre running.. :)
I think most distros today have PPC versions as well as x86, Sparc,
Solaris, etc.. The only one I know of that doesnt is Red Hat. But
YellowDog Linux is pretty much RedHat compiled and configured for the Mac..

Oh wait this is the Logic Cafe hehe..

Yeah, RedHat is X86 and Itanium only, and the current graphic on
their homepage says it's RedHat. So can't be their new server then, I
guess.

I was just wondering if I missed some sort of announcement on their
forums before they went down. Wonderful place that is, wonderful people.

Yes, YellowDog Linux runs on a Mac. But this appears to be RedHat which as far
as I know only runs on PCs and I believe SUNs.

Not that it matters much.. use each system what it's good for :o)

Maybe I'm missing something (I don't know OSXAudio that well, just visited it
a few times) but couldn't their new server be a PC with Linux on it? Are they
that puristic? I'm a big Mac fan, but still I think dedicating a PowerMac and
an OSX Server licence just to run a website would be a complete waste of
money.

Their forums are great. Their regular front page / news section is
worthless though. But there are much better sites for that.

Well, somebody else here mentioned that they were going to get an
Apple Xserve. I looked into getting one last year for our company,
and compared to other A-brand servers they are not really that
expensive. But in the end I built one myself which turned out to be
much cheaper.

These Xserve's probably also make great Logic nodes. (To get back to
Logic_Cafe :-) )

Ah ok then indeed I missed something. :o)

Still, it has to be _somebody's_ redhat box the domain is pointing to.. these
things don't appear just to fill up vacuums.. :o)

MIDI CC to record Automation in Track Automation for audio objects

2005-06-30 by fibrillation

Hi all,

I have Logic Express 6.4.3 and a Nord Modular Synth, I'd like to be
able to record automation into Logic's track automation for a audio
object as I prefer to do mixing with a knob on the Nord instead of with
my mouse but I can't seem to get it to record. When I move a knob on
the Nord that has the midi CC for volume assigned to it I see the
volume fader in Logic moving up and down but nothing is recorded. I've
tried this in all of the automation modes from touch to write.

As I'm using Logic Express it doesn't come with a manual, instead we
get the "introduction to Logic" guide so I apologize if I'm missing
something obvious.

Thank you for any suggestions,

Arik
