1. On the Kurzweil, go to the midi button (on 2000 series at least), then change the midi to "MIdi" (rather than "local" or "both"). If you want to test the keyboard is producing sound to the mixer, set it to local or both temporarily.
2. Next you need to set up a multi instrument in Logic's environment - name it "Kurz" or something for your own benefit. Make sure the port on the Logic strip matches the hardware midi port (check the status lights when you hit a key). Click at least one or more of the little boxes (of the 16) to activate those midi channels.
3. next go to the arrange page, and pick a midi track and select the kurz instrument you created - eg. midi channel one.then you should be able to hear the kurz itself when you select a track for the kurz and otherwise hear whatever other module you choose from logic's arrange page.

Also keep in mind that on some Kurzweils there was one "drum channel" (midi channel 10) and so if you try to play a drum patch on any other channel then it won't sound. Thats because a drum channel has 50+ samples where a normal sound has a lot less. On the K2000 series there was an OS upgrade that gave more drum channels - however the upgrade is a hardware chip you have to buy from someone since they are not made any more.

I read your email exchange and wondered if you might have any hints
for me - I can't seem to get my K1000 synth to use its own voices. I
can use it as a controller for all of logic's internal synths, no
problem. my digi 002 and monitors work fine for audio and audio
instrumnets, but I can't seem to access the Kurzweil's sounds. I find
the manual and various other instruction books very unclear about
setting up a multi instrument. Help? Thanks, Patrick aka grendlbaron
