I am totally new to Mac and Logic and am running a Yamaha Tyros. I
cannot find voices other than GM. This wasn't a problem for me on a PC
with Cakewalk but I am lost here. Can anybody help please as I have
searched the files and cannot find any help there.

are you lookinng for vocal samples to play in the EXS24? I don't understand the question.

In the Tyros, you have loads of voices (instruments) other than the GM.
In Cakewalk they are loaded as ini files.
I want these voices available as I have used a lot on previous work and
am trying to get away from the PC. I don't want to have to revoice them
all.
Hope that makes sense!
Rob.

So they are patches on a synthesizer? I don't know what a Tyros is. If they are different sounds on a synth or module, then you use the bank and patch number parameters on the channel strip in the arrange page to change them. You can also hit record, while selecting a track for this module, and do the patch change on the instrument, and it will record to midi in logic.

Thanks a lot, I am just going now for the day, so will check that out
tomorrow and get back to you.

No joy, it looks like I need multi instrument files that I don't have.
Thanks anyway.
Rob.

Robert,
You may want to look at the intro video to Logic by Phil Jackson. I think it's still around at gearvision.com
This helped me understand the environment in the early days.

Sounds like you need to do a setup once and then never open it again.

Ok, it sounds like you are not able to access your keyboard from Logic and you need to set up Logic? In that case you get the video, or read the manual, or try to follow these instructions.

1. Go to Environment Window
2. Create a new Multi-Instrument
3. Click on or more of the little grids to activate those midi channels
4. While selecting the multi-instrument, look in the side bar at left, and choose the correct midi channel. For example, if your keyboard is plugged into port 1 on an AMT8 midi interface, then choose port 1.
5. This assumes you already ran the audiomidi utility in the folder applications > utilities. So that the OS sees the Midi interface.
6. Make sure to connect midi cables to the interface. Out from the interface to the In of the keyboard, and vice-versa, and also connect the midi interface to the computer (e.g. the AMT8 needs a USB cable, but some audio boards have a midi interface too so no need to connect them).

I bought the video that logic put out - back in 1996. Actually it was really helpful.

I use all outboard gear with Logic and set up the patches myself in
accordance with the actual programs in my keyboards and modules. It's
a bit time consuming, but once it's done you'll have it all the time.
I keep my whole studio of keyboards inside the environment in my
autoload song and just assign em to tracks as I go. Works well for me.

Checked and done all that but it is still only showing the 127 GM sounds.

God, I wouldn't know where to start. I have the time as I am retired but this is over my
head. ( senile old bugger that I am)

Re: [Logic_Cafe] Re: voices

2005-08-12 by GAmoore@aol.com

Good. Then only one other thing remains - to change the bank. Banks are limited to 127 patches (because when midi came out, who would ever need more than that?). On the channel strip/parameter thing at the left on the arrange window there is a place for bank/patch. there is a popup menu for each one, although they are really near to each other. You can also change the bank on the keyboard or module using whatever buttons it has.

Checked and done all that but it is still only showing the 127 GM sounds.
