UAD usage ( was Mixdown options)

UAD usage ( was Mixdown options)

The UAD will definitely help your mixes, but for very different reasons
than the original poster was wondering about.

Can you share exactly which UAD plugs you use, and in what cases?

I may not be getting the best use out of it, but I use
- the 1176LN on drums often
- sometimes LA2A in Limiter mode.
- I find that the pultec eq gives some beef to some tracks but I need to consult the manual because I'm not exactly sure about the controls - its a three band (lo, hi, mid, but only the lo and hi have the boost &atten?)
- phaser is basic - and doesn't have sync to tempo.
- built in reverb is useful to add a little ambience at times

1176 & Pultec on Kick. Not Pultec pro. It's the only UAD plugin I've
not bought.

1176 & Cambridge on snare.

Maybe just a bit of EQ on hats. 2 parametric bands is enough - maybe
Waves renaisence or Logic's own.

Very little on cymbals - perhaps a bit of compression. Something fast
and transpearant.

1176 & Cambridge on toms.

Maybe a bit or eq on overheads but only sometimes.

I use Fairchild or LA2A & Cambridge on vocals.

Don't use any of the UAD's modulation or delay FX. I prefer Logic's own.

I love the Precision limiter and use it everywhere I used to use a
Waves L1 or L2 - mainly drum & bass group, mix bus & for mastering.

I like the UAD reverbs but have not used them a lot. Now I have 2 UAD's
that may change....

upgrade path from digi001/G4?

2004-12-28 by Michael Tuminello

Hey all -

any opinions on the best pro-tools compatible upgrade path from a
g4/digi001 setup is?

I'm assuming that pretty much the only choice is the 002 or 002r, but
wondering if I'm overlooking anything... 2 ins won't do it, so the
mbox is out.

the other question is, is it really worth it to upgrade at all when
you've got a pretty decent setup and it will cost you a small fortune
to do so. apple and digi have got the lowend in a tight place
requiring us to upgrade the computer and audio equipment at the same
time.

I'd love to hear from anyone who's done this migration.

thanks -

Michael

What computer are you running? I understand there is a
problem with the Uads and G5s but that it is
especially troublesome if using multiple Uads.

I Have a Dual 1GHZ Quicksilver G4. UAD performs best under OS X.3 but
most of my mixing is still done under 9.2. UAD gives occasional clicks
& pops under 9 but EVERYTHING about 9 is so much faster and almost as
stable.
