Hi Quality Ethnic Samples at Low Price

Hi Quality Ethnic Samples at Low Price

2007-02-24 by Nigel Robinson

Hi Guys,

If you've any use for rare/ethnic instruments of a very high quality I've just taken delivery
of the "Quantum Leap Rare Instruments" collection, which normally retails for $499.95, for
just $19.95 (£10-£11). Shipping to the UK virtually doubles the price, but £20-£25 is still
a good deal for a 3 CD-ROM set.

In my view it's worth it for the excellent celtic pipes/flute and fiddles alone! The samples
are in Gigasampler (Gigastudio) format, but convert easily when called into the EXSP
sample player.

If you're interested you can get it here:
http://www.soundsonline.com/product.php?productid=QLRIGIG

The full instrument set is:

ALPEN HORN (14 ft. wooden horn), HURDY GURDY (keyed instrument bowed with wheel),
GEDULKA (Bulgarian fiddle), HIGHLAND PIPES (Scottish bagpipes), UILLEANN PIPES (Irish
bapipes), LAUDENNAS (Sardinian triple reeded flute), IRISH LOW WHISTLE (Irish flute). ERHU
(2 stringed Chinese fiddle, bowed), DUNG-CHEN (8 ft. Tibetan trumpet), TAIKO DRUMS
(giant Japanese barrel drums), 34" CHINESE GONG, 23" THAI GONG. SARANGI (bowed
classical Indian instrument), TABLAS, DUDUK (Armenian flute), MIDDLE EASTERN FIDDLE.

Here's hoping someone finds this useful!

Kind regards,

Nigel

Yes a very good deal. But I'll bet $19.95 that these came on home burnded
cds? I bought several collections from ebay from the quantum leap series, but to
find they were home burned cds, with "serial number generators". I never
installed them and asked for my money back. If these Russian or Hungarian hackers
can hack a serial number program, they might also install spyware or malware on
your computer when you install. Then your computer will act up, or become a
spam generating station unbeknownst to you.

That's a geat deal! Thanks for the tip. I've been looking for a
hurdy gurdy instrument, and didn't think one existed. But I was
including EXS24 in my searches, forgetting that Giga was just as
useable.

They also have a "Twisted Textures" audio CD for only $10. Since I
just placed the order, I can't vouch for its usability, but it's $90
at Musician's Friend, and the demo sounds impressive, so it seems to
be a good deal as well.

The only drawback is that overnight shipping was the only option they
presented to me. $12.75 for overnight shipping that I don't need
seems a bit coercive, but hey - it's cheaper than shipping to the
UK! :-)

Hey I'm sorry. They really are blowing this out for $20. There are some great
deals after all. Thanks for sharing!

I got it - along with BT's Twisted Textures which was about $150 when it came
out, but is only $10 now. Don't feel bad about pay $20 for shipping from LA
to England, I had to pay about $15 for shipping and tax, and I live an hour's
drive away from them.

By the way, I have had great success with soundfonts from Sonivox (Sonic
Implants). They import into EXS24 very easily too and sound great. They frequently
have sales, and you can buy online and download, there is no shipping and no
tax.

I really like having things in EXS24 rather than stuff like Garritan that
plays in the NI player, because of stability and loading times.

Ha! Amazing deal.Nothing like loading up ethno samples in a properly
microtuned EXS24...
Shipping to The Netherlands is more expensive than the samples,
though. And Eastwest Europe doesn't seem to offer the same deal.

Thanks for letting us know.

best,

Hi Guys,

It's great to see so many of you found it useful (I re-read it before posting and though it
sounded a bit like some cheesy sales pitch!).

The manual talks about using key-switching to access some articulation. Anyone know
how this is achieved (especially if you don't have an 88-note keyboard)?

Re: "Twisted Textures" : I've not come across the Audio format, 'scuse my ignorance, but is
this another format we can import easily into EXS/EXSP?

Not immediately. You can always make EXS instruments with audio samples, but
its quite a chore compared to Battery which is very easy to drag and drop
audio onto the cells and have it set up automatically. I heard the samples of this
Twisted Textures, and they are more suited for bringing in as audio files -
pads and washes, etc.

Cheers for that. You learn a new thing every day!

I had a listen to the "Twisted" demo, but I just can't bring myself to stump up the postage
a second time. Given the choice I'd wait seven/fourteen days if the postage was cheaper -
given the choice...

...I just received the Twisted Textures & the Bob Clearmountain Drum library (Sets 1 & 2,) but I have one small problem. EastWeat Sounds accidentally sent me one of the Clearmountain Sets in the Akai format...
Being a new-be to the ESX, will Logic "translate" Akai sample files or should I try to exchange the CD ROM?

  Thanks in Advance...

If you are reffering to the "EXS24", yes The Akai format is compatible with the EXS24
