Firepod question

Firepod question

2007-03-14 by Gregory

Hey all,

I'm thinking of getting a Firepod. Sometimes I'm going to want to
use it by itself, and sometimes I'm going to want to add it to my
existing setup, anchored by a MOTU828mk1. Ideally, it would have
ADAT out, like the 8PRE, but if it has a standalone mode that will
allow me to route the preamps to the analog inputs on my 828, that
would work well as well. I downloaded the pathetically sparse manual
and found no mention of this. Can anyone confirm that the firepod
can or can't function as a standalone 8-preamp device?

Before you say "get an 8Pre", I'm having to look away from that, as I
will a) sometimes be working on a PC, and b)I need some free outputs
to route the signal through an outboard Sonic Maximizer.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Gregory

I can confirm that it's baby brother, the FireBox can function as a
standalone 2 x mic pre when it's power supply is on. Makes for a
handy DI box for me at times - so I'd be surprised if the FirePod
didn't offer similar functionality.

Why not email Presonus support. I've found them very helpful...

Kind regards

Re:Firepod question

Hi,

I have successfully used the firepod to record 8 tracks at once into
Logic running on the MacBook 1st Edition Core Duo. I used an external
firewire drive for the audio. I also use the firepod in a live
situation where I have different outputs going to individual mixer
channels and it works great. I use a free sound utility for the Mac
called soundflower. http://www.cycling74.com/products/soundflower
Soundflower will give you routing control of the I/O of the firepod.
Hope that helps

Peace
