Logic and big monitors

Logic and big monitors

2007-05-18 by GAmoore@aol.com

I was keen on buying the Dell 30" monitor for $1269 (free shipping, no tax)
because its supposedly the same screen that apple uses. However, it seems there
is not a single graphics board I can put in my G5 with PCI slots. So I have
to give up on that.

Instead I hooked up a 22" and a 19" side by side, and discovered something.
Both of them are 1024 vertically, and I was able to make really wide windows in
Logic (arrange, matrix, score, mixers) that span both monitors. The key thing
was that when I assign them to a screenset they come back the same again. In
the past, I found that they often came back on a single monitor. Maybe
something about both monitors having the same vertical resolution allows Logic to
make these ultra wide screensets easier. I think its so good that I don't need
the 30" that much anyway.

I've been working with 2 17" monitors 1280 x 1024 for years and never
had this problem. Perhaps your theory is right. Agreed that one huge
Arrange across both monitors is fabulous for some things. I actually
wish I had an easy way of doing a third monitor for a track mixer but
all my PCI slots are full with UAD's & Audio card.

Cheapest Way to Dual Monitors?

2007-05-29 by pete_buchwald

Hey,

In my dual G4 I have two video outs. One is a DVI I think, and I have that converted to a
VGA. The other output is an ADC and the (VGA) converter cable for that tends to go for
about $50-65 on eBay!

What would be the best way for me to get dual or triple display?

I've picked up some 21 inch monitors at thrift stores. So I just need the link between
the VGA from the monitors and a way to get into the computers.

The idea of triple display is tempting. More is better : )

Is multiple display much of a CPU suck?

     Thanks!

       Pete

Re: [Logic_Cafe] Cheapest Way to Dual Monitors?

I use a Radeon board, I think its 7100 and cost about $120 about 2 years ago.
With that I run a 23" cinema and 19" vga from the same board. I don't think
it takes that big of a hit on the cpu - thats what the graphics board is for.
There is 1/2 second lag when changing screensets but that could be the graphics
board too. The people who would really know this is the "gaming" community -
the hardcore computer gamers who want the absolute fastest machine possible.
