Just introducing myself

Just introducing myself

2004-12-14 by Charles Choc, Jr.

Howdy everyone,
Not to be redundant (or annoying), but as the subject says, I'm just
posting this message to intoduce myself to everyone. I have just
recently begun to use logic (Logic 7 Pro), and it is the first serious
software sequence/audio solution that I have used. I am very excited
to get into this badboy, and I have just begun to get my outside gear
to interact with it and all that other MIDI rigamarole.

For what it's worth, I also own:
Elektron Machinedrum
Access Indigo 2
Akai MPC1000
circuit-bent Roland TR-505

I look forward to when I can get all of the above to play nicely together.

Just letting you folks know I'm breathing and I look forward to
learning from you so that I can recycle wisdom later on to those that
follow.

Charles

Hi Charles! Welcome aboard.

How do you like the Machinedrum? It seems very interesting, but I only heard
one sample from M-Audio who puts out a sample CD based on it, and I was
surprised that it didn't sound synth like.

The Machinedrum is simply amazing. I don't want to sound like an
Elektron fanboy, but it has such ridiculous potential in terms of both
synthesis (and not just drums either, as many people often mention,
it's capable of producing very melodic sounds) and sequencing. There
are four full-fledged synth machines in the device, each machine
holding 12-16 highly tweakable instruments. The effects are nice, and
the 16 assignable dual-waveform LFOs make it possible (and easier) to
achieve very interesting results. I don't ever plan on buying another
drum machine. Yeah, so I guess that "I'm with machinedrum." God, I AM
a fanboy!

P.S. Some stuff sounds very synth-like (TR stuff, etc.), but it can do
good approximations of accoustic drums that are still pretty damn
tweakable; one of the machines is sample based, which translates into
slightly less tweakability, but, these instruments have retrigger
parameters which can create rushes that are just nuts. Using the
parameter locks (which are THE reason that the sequencer rocks) you
can have the machinedrum "fill in the gap" between two different
retrigger time parameters of two different drum notes and have, for
example, a snare rush that speads up or slows down, etc. (ala Flash's
motion tweens' "fill in the blanks" functionality, if that means
anything to anyone reading this)

Anyway, thanks for the welcome, it is appreciated. I look forward to
participating in this forum to whatever extent I can.
