logic wishes and little bugs

logic wishes and little bugs

2008-01-16 by GAmoore@aol.com

More wishes and fixes for Logic 8 :

- in the matrix, i wish there were a channel tool like the velocity tool to
change the midi channel of individual notes. anyone doing classical
orchestrations using the higher end sample libraries knows what I am talking about where
you have to change notes one by one to different channels. currently this only
do-able using two screens - matrix and a list and going back and forth.

- in the list view, why can't i push the NOTES button to see just the notes,
rather than pushing ALL the other buttons to exclude nothing but the notes?

- same issue with the mixer and the buttons for instruments, busses, etc. its
a pain to get it right and contrary to logic.

- i have screen shots of weird graphic anonamlies - eg. on the main fader
with extra sets of meter leds, or garbage characters

- if you have a file with a name like "abc/def" (when you meant "abc.def") it
allows you to save as, but then when you hit save it gives a cryptic error
that its not able to.

- why not put some sort of basic limiter on all tracks and main output? no
one wants to go over the digital max. Can't some super-efficient little limiter
be place on everything automatically?

- how do you label AUX's with custom names? how do you make auxes and main
outputs and such appear as arrange tracks? There used to be an 'inspector' on
the environment/matrix window to rename, and also to choose to custom names, and
to click the icon to make them appear on the arrange track. those seem to be
impossible now.

- quite funky behaviour when you open 7.2 songs with busses, and try to
delete them and use the AUX's.

- whats with not being able to open old logic songs? I tried to open
something last night and it said I needed to convert it useing Logic 7.2.1 or earlier
- but L8 could not open it! I don't have 7.2 installed on this new computer.

- is it my imagination, or does the window linking not work properly many
times now? I link two arrange windows, and click on an item on one window, but
the other does not scroll to it.

- solo'ing an item can now throw Logic into global solo mode, so you hear
nothing unless the item is selected. it did not work this way before.

- logic does not seem to recognize Autoload files no matter where they are
placed.

I think you make a lot of great points, but this one I can help out
with. If go to the Environment window and highlight a channel strip,
you get a corresponding Inspector-looking window on the left. One of
the parameters you can choose is Channel. From there you can select
output or aux or anything else. The change is then reflected in the
arrange window. I frequently use this to automate the volume on the
output.

Again, I really like your other ideas, especially the CHANNEL tool
idea in the Piano Roll. That would be sweet.

Thanks for your comments. It used to work that way in L7. I guess the
confusion might be because I used to use the environment mixer before in 7, but now
this dedicated mixer in 8 which is not in an environment setting. I guess I
need to noodle around a bit more.

I just inadvertently discovered another way to get an Output track in
your Arrange window--and it's super easy. Just go to an Output
channel strip that shows up as a default in the Inspector and select
an automation mode (touch, read, latch, etc) and you immediately get a
track on the Arrange for Output. Cool!
