Beat Detective type function in L8???

Beat Detective type function in L8???

2008-02-28 by pete_buchwald

Group,

Just wondering if anybody has found a Beat Detective type function in pro tools. Which is
essentially the ability to quantize audio transients. Without the Tim Gilles (NYLUG) type
fancy footwork of audio to midi conversion and stuff. Looking for a simple tool.

    Thanks,

      Pete

How does the NYLUG method work? Convert audio to midi, then choose some of
the notes, to use for a custom tempo map? I guess they took that automatic
function (that didn't seem to work well) out of Logic, but you can do it manually
fairly easily now.

I have used the beat master track and drag the bar lines to transients. It
works fairly well, but the problem is that there are not always notes right on
the beats so you end up getting really erratic tempo changes.

You could probably use the new "go to transient" key command, then slice the
audio at those points too.

I was never a big user of PT, much less beat
detective, but this guy is a new Logic user that has
switched from Pro Tools. He's just started a video
series on drum track quantization in Logic as a
substitution for using PT's Beat Detective. Check his
vids out here:

Hope they help.
