Apple Logic Pro /LogicExpress Discussion

I upgraded to Sibelius 5 and had to install Mac OS10.5 to make it
work. Unfortunately, the EXSP24 synth that came in Logic Express 6
doesn't work anymore, apparently it requires the "Classic" OS. I'd
love to buy Logic 8, but my computer isn't fast enough (it's an emac
G4 at 1Ghz.) Can I buy a soft synth that does the sort of things the
EXSP24 does that will work with Logic 6?

The short answer is "no".

The long answer is that there is software out there, like Native  
Instruments Kontakt or MOTU's Mach 5, or even ROMpler instruments like  
Plugsound Pro, that do what the EXSP24 does. But those packages  
require a lot of CPU to do their thing and your machine is not up to  
the task.

If you're serious about your music, make an investment in a more  
modern computer that can run Mac OS X 10.5 and software that requires  
it as they were intended to be run. Expecting anything from modern  
Leopard-only software on 1GHz eMac G4 is really pushing a limited  
machine past what it can realistically do.

I upgraded my G5 system to an iMac Aluminum in October 2007 and it's  
been an excellent investment. Hanging on to a 6 year old system only  
makes sense if you're using 6 year old software that doesn't work on  
newer machines (some people keep older PowerPC systems around to run  
those old Mac OS 9.x programs and I completely understand that  
thinking). If you want to run the new software, consider upgrading to  
the new hardware. Or at least newer hardware from the past few years.
