Logic v8 question - Phase switching

Logic v8 question - Phase switching

2009-07-16 by Steve Currington

Hi..

Quick question does Logic have a tool that solves phase issues in recordings?
Actually what I really want to know is does it has a tool that allows one to switch the phase of a recording 180deg..

When recording, say, a kick drum from both sides of the skin with 2 mics.. ala from the beater side and the opposite side phasing occurs and this needs fixing. One way would be to swap the phase of the signal of one 180 degrees and make other adjustments etc to get around the phase issue.

I know some Pre's have phase switches etc to help with such issues but what if the gear you are using doesn't have that feature does Logic have a plugin that does that for you?

I think you can reverse the phase in the audio window ... but I am not
sure now.

for more complicated phase resolution, there is a little plugin that
does exactly that - and not just 180 degrees - but any two mics. Its
for the UAudio board though.

I run a Motu gear just upgraded to Mk3 models and have not learned all
about them yet yet..
Hmm need to read the manuals I guess. was hoping for a quick guide on
where to look etc...

Hey,

The plugin called "Gain" has phase invert on it, in addition to a few other little helpful goodies.

It's native to Logic. plugins/utilities/gain.

Also the sample editor lets you invert phase of the waveform.

I use a PSP plug-in to change phase. I think it's called Stereo Controller...
Also, doesn't Logic have a similar plug (under the special or helper plug-in groups) that enables you to switch phase?
Sorry, not in front of Logic right now...

But I know I've done it one of those ways.

The Gain plugin (Utility section in the plugin pulldown menu)
has the Phase (actually, Polarity) Reversal switch..

Cheers,
Joe

Thanks Guy's.. I new it would be there somewhere.

I really need to investigate and play with all the plug ins and see
what they do.. Just time is the issue.
But I think it would be time well spent.

Anyway.. thanks for the pointer..
