No but I guess that is another added expense and they are cautious
about making it too expensive. Technology licensing etc. can really
add $$

But the new device looks a stunner and the grunt under the hood of a
IMAC is gonna be fabulous. OK still doesn't beat a Mac pro but for
composers and home studio folk like me it is a fabulous solution.

Now to get a 27" LCD second screen to plug into the miniport & I will
be in 7th heaven (to use a musical term)

Adding touch screens to normal, vertically oriented, PCs is
well known as a disastrous thing to do in the interface design
community.
Basically, people think it is a good idea until they try it
for any amount of real work, at which point the 'Gorilla arm' effect
kicks in and they hate it.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Touchscreen#Gorilla_Arm

Look for touchscreen interfaces to Mac OS X to come only with
a tablet (which can be used horizontally).
The Magic Mouse, however, looks like a really nifty way to
incorporate touch technology into desktop machines, and I think is
pretty smart, a lot smarter than touchscreens would have been.
	Cheers

Yeah, it would be nice - but adding touch screens to all
imacs just to cater to the small number of people who use them in
similar situations doesn't seem like good idea.
Lets hope the much rumoured Apple Tablet appears real soon,
basically. As a device that I could also walk around with and use
that way, it sounds potentially even better.
	Cheers

And before they go that way Apple could spend five minutes or so devising
a way to make their mouses (mice) last longer than a couple of months
before losing their scrolling ability.

Try turning your mouse upside down, and running the scroll ball on the
mouse pad.

This is off topic a bit but Apple is not perfect. I just bought the
remastered version of the Beatle's Revolver, and just a few hours ago I
put it in the computer to add to itunes. It asked me whether it was
Revolver remastered or Revolver remastered (exactly the same). So I
chose the first one. Wrong. Its in Japanese! And all the song titles
are in Japanese. And I can't get it back into English. And every CD I
put in, it maximizes itunes, even though I minimized it.

I'll try that next time. It also works to push the little ball down

really hard and scrub up and down twenty or so times. But you'd think

they could sort this out, wouldn't you?

Home Composed Song Contest

2009-10-22 by Andy Brook

Many thanks to everyone who helped me in my crash course to producing
a song in Logic. It was for an online song contest. In the end I ran
out of time, before I had got to grips with everything, particularly
vocal production, but I`m pleased with the result - its probably the
best song overall that I have written (musically and lyrically) and it
sounds more or less how I wanted it to. I actually had to send an
unfinished version, that's how much I ran out of time, but in case
anyone is interested, here is a link to the song.

http://rapidshare.com/files/295632932/Disturbing_Tendencies.mp3

It sounds great on my ipod and mac, with decent headphones, less great
in other situations, but I guess that I still have a lot to learn
about mastering, along wiith many, more basic skills. Still, with more
time I can now go back and relearn at more leisure.

If anyone has a spare few seconds to hit the 'vote' button, here is
the link. The public vote only comprises one out of 20 sets of votes.

My entry is song 23 - Disturbing Tendencies by Londonvision featuring
Tiina.

http://www.hcsc2009.eu/participants.htm

You can listen to the contest version of the song here

http://www.hcsc2009.eu/participants_files/23AndyBrook/song23.html
Some of you might be interested in the contest itself - it is strictly
for amateurs and is a European based contest run by Eurovision Song
Contest fans.

Anyway, thanks once again for all the tips!

Andy B

Here's the lyric of the song. A happy little number, I think you will
agree!

DISTURBING TENDENCIES

words and music by Andy Brook
sung by Tiina Kolehmainen

You were a beautiful baby; heaven sent, heaven knows
You had a privileged childhood - boarding school, and it shows
Why is it no-one else can see what I can see? You need help
you are displaying Disturbing Tendencies

Drinking too much, taking too many pills
Smoking too much, chasing too many thrills
When are you ever gonna wake up
And where will that be?

Too many nights end in too many fights
You're out for the count, when they turn on the lights
And when are you ever gonna grow up
And what will you be?
And will it be before your nemesis will show up?

With your celebrity lifestyle, gutter press stalking you
They set you up just to knock you down - that's what they always do
Now it's becoming clear for everyone to see, you need help
You are displaying Disturbing Tendencies

Drinking too much, taking too many pills
Smoking too much, chasing too many thrills
When are you ever gonna wake up
And where will that be?

Too many nights end in too many fights
You're out for the count, when they turn out the lights
And when are you ever gonna grow up
And what will you be?

When are you ever gonna grow up
And what will you be?
And will it be before your nemesis will show up?
Will it be before....

Are you gonna grow up?

You were a beautiful baby; heaven sent, heaven knows...

There is all kinds of processing going on in Itunes too.
DO NOT use it for critical listening!!!!!!! It's a consumer app, with
all kinds of "enhancers".

Critical listening? So what do you recommend for critical listening?

I ejected the CD and put it in again, but it was "smart" enough to
remember the Japanese encoding. You would think between the two apples
(Steve Jobs and Paul McCartney) they would get something like this
right.

Since we're off topic anyway has anyone else gotten the new Beatles
cd's? I bought almost all of them, and the differences are there but a
bit subtle. They also seem to be oriented to the original Brit releases
which do not sync with the US releases of the songs. So the songs of
"Meet the Beatles" are on 2-3 of the new CDs for example.

Wouldn't it be easier to delete the tracks and rip the CD again

picking the other Revolver-remastered database entry? BTW, isn't

this more of a CDDB problem than a Mac problem?

You can actually disable most of the sound enhancement in iTunes.
