help with loop playback

help with loop playback

2009-12-27 by bluemonk7772000

For some reason, my loops don't playback. I have Logic Pro (just installed) and Logic Express and Garageband. When I audition a loop, it plays just fine in all three systems. In Logic Pro and Express, after I add a track and drag a loop, the loop track is added but there is no sound. I've checked my audio settings and now have all my monitoring equipment unhooked and the audio setting on using the internal speakers. In Garageband, the loop plays just fine. Help!

Stupid question, but just to be sure: it is an audio track that you
are dragging the loop to, rather than a midi track? I only ask as it
is just the sort of stupid mistake that I make all the time :-)

And also make sure that the track is also assigned to output to the correct
output device.. Sometimes (but not often) I set that wrong in error and no
sound occurs because the sound is going into a black hole...

Also dumb question but I assume the track is not muted!!

Steve

Talking of stupid things....

2009-12-27 by Andy Brook

I am building a song with a mixture of audio and midi tracks, and -
not for the first time - I forgot to set the time signature when I
started. So, I imported my audio tracks, which - of course, are at the
right speed (and one of which had a basic rhythm track). I then
recorded some string part fillers using Logic, then came to add the
rhythm tracks and found out I was in completely the wrong tempo. So
all of the midi tracks were totally wasted, all of the positioning of
the audio tracks then came to be out of place and I wasted a few
hours, all for want of setting the time signature right at the start.

Let it be a warning to others who have less discipline in what they do
than they really ought to!

Thanks, Steve. Yes, I was dragging it to a midi track and when I put it in an audio track, it played back fine. That seems weird to me (that it would be an audio track) but I'm just learning and sometimes things don't make sense until you get used to them.
Thanks again for the helpful and quit response. Now I've got a whole day to play!

If you record audio in Logic, it places markers so you can change the tempo later. If you are just changing the time signature (as in 4:4 to 5:4) I didn;t think it would change the audio, but if so, lock the audio first before making the change in time signature, then unlock it afterward.

Sorry - I meant to say tempo, not time signature. Too much festive
spirit!
