Audio not playing problem ... was Volume Question

Audio not playing problem ... was Volume Question

2005-01-13 by GAmoore@aol.com

The strange thing is that it's only the tracks recorded through the
midi or keyboard that I can't hear. When I recorded vocal tracks
with the microphone, they
played back fine.

Sounds like the midi is playing through, but that its not recording. There are so many little potential issues.

1. Is midi being captured?
Do you see a sequence created on the track where you played the keyboard... and can you double click it to see that there are notes in there? If not, then you need to mess with the midi interface and channels to make sure midi is coming in, and then getting recorded.

2. Are you converting Midi to Audio by recording to an audio track?
If you have midi recorded, then you know how to record to an audio track right? You click an audio track, hit the record button and hit the play button... you should see the meters moving on the channel strip for the audio channel strip. If not, then there is an issue with the audio driver, cabling, etc.

Note Logic is rather clumsy to use to play live from the midi keyboard to audio. You can turn off the midi on the keyboard and just play it live. But if you are going through a midi interface and want to record mid and audio, you can select two by shift selecting, but it won't show the channel strip for the audio channel no matter what order you selet them in

I'm not sure if I'm recording the Midi right, or even using the right terminology. I have a
keyboard pluged in via usb. I am trying to record using the instr tracks or the tracks
labelled as specific instruments (grand piano, trumpet . . .)

When it records, notes show up on a staff, but when I play it back, there is no sound.

Can you use pre programed instruments with an external keyboard in Logic Express?
Also, do you have to move an apple loop tracks into an audio channel in order to hear
them?

Thanks for all the great feedback,
Zac
