Two Problems I'm Having- Help

Two Problems I'm Having- Help

2010-06-02 by Peter B

Hey group, hope you're having a good summer.

Problem #1 - After upgrading to Logic 9.1 .. or something: when I create a new software instrument the default is the EVP88 electric piano .... DRIVING ME NUTS! How can you make it just create a blank track? Currently my work around is to create 1 additional track to whatever number I need, then I delete the last track that has the electric piano on it.

Problem #2 - How can you take aif or wave files and make them into a new comp track for something? Example; a cello player friend did 4 takes of something for me in his house and e-mailed me a link to the aif files. I want to comp the 4 tracks. Help!

As a gesture of gratitude I'll offer a "did you know!?" tip of my own for you:

Did you know that if you were playing along with a midi/software instrument with your project, but didn't press record, you can do a function called "Capture Performance as Recording" after the fact!!?? So cool. The keyboard shortcut is control-asterisk (on the number pad).

i dunno the answers to your questions, but to add to your tip, not only
is there a keyboard shortcut, you can also reconfigure the transport
(arrange page > view > configure transport) and choose to include a
button to capture the take. However, the danger is that if you loop,
when it loops around you lose everything unless you stop immediately
and capture it.

you can make a blank channel strip and save it. you can also then save
that logic file as one of your templates. so you should have this evp88
problem at all. regarding the cello, probabably have to do it the old
fashioned way - just line then up, slice them, and use the solo tool to
select, or mute/unmute. its not that bad - in fact I like it better
than using the new fangled method.
