Re: [MarcosManiacs] Re: front suspension

2002-06-12 by Mike Denman

Hi Dave,
I have recently (in the past two years) bought both a windshield and a glass rear screen for my Marcos 1800. The windshield I bought from Heritage spares (Rory McMath) and the shipping to the USA, packaging, freight forwarding and storage waiting for customs at the S.F. airport was twice the price of the windshield. Rory was able to ship the windshield rather quickly. The box it was shipped in was costly but very protective.
The rear screen (glass) I bought from the Marcos Owners Club. It seemly took forever to get... about 8 months if memory serves. Jac Myers, a fellow 1800 owner, was absolutely instrumental in getting it built and shipped. He called and expedited and generally took charge of making it happen for me. When he shipped the rear glass it came to my "door step" and I didn't have to pay freight forwarding etc. It was still expensive but not as expensive as the windshield and it was more convenient.
Regards,
Mike Denman

Hi Dave,

You're in luck. Not only do I have Colin Feyerabend's phone number, I also
have the last copy of Torque magazine with me.

Colin's work number is (they're 5 hours ahead):- 01144 181 460 3511
His email address is :- abs.labs@...

From past experience, it was FAR better to phone him than to try and get him
to respond to an email. He should be able to let you know off the top of his
head whether the glass rear screens are still available. The front screen,
with a blue top tint, cost me only 159 pounds as opposed to the 375 pounds
that Rory McMath charges. Big difference, eh! The cost of pickup, recrating
of two screens and transportation to Toronto via ship was 262 pounds.
Brokers fees, taxes and warehouse fees at this end were CAN$226. So you can
see, the windshield is not the biggest expense.

Your biggest problem is to light a fire under Colin. He's a great guy but
comes across as totally disorganized. Also, Pilkington glass generally don't
keep windshields in stock and I had to wait quite some time for them to get
around to making them. I also hear that the glass rear screens are a pig to
make, so there's a chance that they've stopped making them.

The shipping agent was:- Partimex Trading International - Contact
name is Stan Hilton
Unit 14, Wilds Yard, Station Road,
Cullompton, Devon, (just
outside Exeter)
EX15 1BQ

; Phone:- 01144 1884 35522

They did an excellent job with recrating, which added somewhat to the cost,
but they insisted on doing it for insurance coverage purposes and wouldn't
have taken on the job otherwise. The screens arrived in perfect condition.

A word of warning regarding installation. The rear screen in particular is
tricky to install and many have been broken in the attempt. Whoever does the
installation had better know what they're doing.

When you contact Colin, it may help if you mention my name because I've been
interfacing with Colin in one way or another for over 20 years,.

Good luck.

Hi Paul,
Is there a number I could get a hold of Colin at ,I thought the
glass was a lot more expensive than that .
