Pat,
I'm also changing to a taller rear gear, but
gave up trying to find one for my my original axle. Since I am re-powering with
a Triumph TR-8 3.5 engine and related M77 5-speed, I am also going to use the
TR-8 rear axle. It has a 3.08:1 ratio and the same 3.75" lug pattern as the
Marcos, but it is almost 2" wider track. I think I can still use it with stock
Marcos alloys as far as fitting the rear fender openings (I understand all the
1980's Marcos cars were a similar wider track). All that is needed is to
cut off the Triumph locating/mounting brackets off the housing and
weld on the ones for the Marcos. I may use my originals, or I may have new
ones fabricated.
The T-5 gearbox is an excellent choice (I am using
one in a TVR project). Don L. said a Essex V-4 bellhousing may
work. My Marcos is a a '69/'70 (steel chassis) with a Ford V-4.
I am removing the driveline (though I haven't gotten that far yet!), but I
don't know if the T-5 will bolt up where my 4-speed currently is. I will look to
see if it may accept a T-5. Either way, both the V-4, 4-speed, and bellhousing
are available.
I hope this helps! - Donny Lang

I am looking for higher gears to improve highway cruising. The existing unit is a Salisbury with 3.58:1 gear ratio. I need 3.0:1. Is the differential the same as 6 cylinder Ford Falcon and Mustang? If not, where can I get the gears? Has anyone ever done this modification? I am currently looking for 15" x 7" wheels to replace the Minilites (13 x 8 and 13 x 10) for which I cannot get tires anymore. I have already purchased P205R50-15 for the front and P225R50-15 for the back. The front wheels will do with 0.197" negative offset while the back require 2.195" negative. I am expecting some information from Minilite Wheels in the U.K. I am prepared to make my own wheels if need be.
The next improvement will be to either replace the second gear ratio of 2.214:1 with 1.950:1 or fit a modern T5 5 Speed. Do you know where I can find the gear? Will a T5 fit the existing bolt pattern?

February's "car of the month" is Andy Seward's Mini Marcos, located in
Pennsylvania.
Hope you all are having a good new year. We will have some more cars on the
road this year with Dave Barton and Bob Magnotti nearing completion of their
rebuilds. Mine is undergoing the change from 13" wheels to 16". Also got a
bunch of parts from Garry Diver (Marcos Parts USA) when he passed thru
northern California on his round trip of the country to deliver parts, cars,
etc. Now I've got something to do on these long winter nights...
