Paul,
I too have the "little British car disease". I
looked at your car late last summer, just because it was so different.
I had no interest in buying it, I have too many as it is, though it was
interesting! I already bought two project cars from Hayes back in late
2001, a Marcos and a TVR. I also have two Bugeye Sprites and a
lot of parts for them. I am building one for the same purposes you are, the
other one will be to sell as a decent driver. I can't tell you how to build
your car, but I'm using a 1275 (bored 0.120 over for 1380), alloy big valve
head, 5 speed transmission, disc brakes, etc. It probably wouldn't be too
competitive in class with these modifications, but it will be a blast for street
use. Contact me if there is anything I can help with. Good
Luck!

Just wondering if anyone on the list has experience with Austin
Healey Sprites.
I recently picked up an old race car 1959 Sprite with a Speedwell
bonnet, low cut doors & Brooklands windscreens from Hayes at Wire
Wheel Classics, pix on my profile if anyone wants to see it, anyway
I'd appreciate any advice on rebuilding it (will use for street and
mild race/autocross), the body is good, but the mechanicals will all
need to be done, and I will also be looking for a hardtop, any
advice appreciated, engine, suspension, clutch etc... I do belong
to the local Austin Healey club which will help, but a lot of the
members of this list seem to be real mechanical --- so thats why I'm
bringing it up here.
Thanks,
Paul
