Hampton and Larry,
I dug into my Marcos and unbolted one of my Kangol
belt reels and then compared it to those in my TR8. All they have in common is
they are both the same brand and mount in the same reletive location in the
respective cars. The Marcos unit is a heavy alloy casting that mounts with
a single horizontal bolt at the bottom of the casting. The TR8 reel has a
formed steel frame that bolts on with two bolts; one horizontal bolt on the
bottom and one vertical bolt at the back of the unit. They both use plastic side
caps and the TR8 reel uses a plastic cover over the rolled belt where the Marcos
leaves the rolled belt exposed, though the whole unit is covered by the headrest
cap. I'll check out some early Jag XJ6s to see what they use. In the meantime, I
can take some digital pictures.
I too would like to find someone that can media
blast in the Miami/Ft Lauderdale area. I have started to chip away at the paint
and don't want to use chemicals because I am afraid of the 'glass absorbing some
of the stripper and continuing to "work" years after its repainted. I've
had that happen several years ago. I'll probably end of sanding/DAing the
paint off if I can't find anyone to media blast it. I might also look
into media blasting myself since I already have sand blasting
equipment, though I know it is a different process. I too need to replace
the outer rocker frame rails that were crudely repaired on my car. Everything
else looks sound. I'm going to allow for a rollbar base when the body is off the
frame, similar to what Gary Diver did on his. Lets keep in touch! -

I've got my car completely disassembled at this point. The body is off
the chassis and I am looking for someone who can plastic media blast
the body to strip the paint (I've just about given up on trying to
chemically strip it). Right now it looks like I may have to take it to
Orlando as there doesn't seem to be anywhere else in south Florida.I
have some rust in the lower frame rails and am going to weld in some
new pieces in the next few weeks. Any help as to the belts is
appreciated. I've found a few Kangol Magnetic belts on eBay but if you
have some pictures of yours it would help.
Let me know if you need any info also.
Cheers,
Hampton
