I have shortened the shift carriage on the Volvo M410 tranny to fit my Marcos. It only took a couple hours and works fine.
Send me some picture of your transmission, and I will see if I can help.

So far it seems the biggest issue is shortening the gear lever position.
It's not uncommon in England but I know of no one who has done it here in the U.S.Luckily I have two boxes to work with if the first does not go well.Merkur was a 2.3 Turbo so first gear may be OK.Speedo drive and prop-shaft are the simple parts.Really need the engine mounts so I can trial fit it all.Richard Brengman1422-A Industrial WayGardnerville, NV 89410

Your 5-speed T9 is a great trans but will require a few things such as shortened drive shaft, (probably) different speedo drive (wheel size, etc, you'll be tooling at 100MPH on the speedo and 70 actual!) and you should review and likely change 1st gear while you go over the trans because the weight of the Merkur is so different that you'll be changing to second gear before you cross the intersection from a stop.

It's a cut & shut of the aluminum housing and the steel shift rod.
I have detailed pics but will have to organize them.
Trans builders in the U.K. will not sell a modified set as they claim it's too precise so they have to build the complete trans.
