Spring arrives in Ontario

Spring arrives in Ontario

2004-05-17 by McLeod, Ronald

Maniacs . . .

At last, a sunny weekend here with no rain, so time to get the Mantis out of
storage. Took the cover off, key in the ignition, full choke, and crank.
Had to crank a little, but finally the engine sprang to life. Careful check
in the engine compartment and underneath - no fluids gushing out. Good
sign! Out of the driveway, test the brakes - seem to be working well on all
4 wheels. Up to the gas station to check the tire pressure - all 4 are spot
on. Around the local streets to warm things up - guages all working, clutch
is good. Onto the highway, find a side road, then foot to the floor and
wind it up through the gears - yep, still 100 mph at 300 RPM in top
overdrive.

So, bring on the summer!

Wow, Ron, 100mph at 300 RPM. How fast does it go when you really wind her up?

Paul . . .

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I noticed that about one nanosecond after I hit the send
button. Outlook is very unforgiving.

Either it's 3,000 RPM, or my tach wasn't working nearly as well as I thought
it was.

Hello Ron and fellow Maniacs,

We also finally had a taste of spring here in Anchorage so I got my 3-liter out for the first run of 2004 this past Sunday. Sure feels good to be driving it again and it ran great following the repairs I made over the winter!! I am also looking forward to some good summer weather.

Enjoy!!

I agree, beautiful weather here in northern California also! Two
weeks ago did a 250 mile jaunt with the local Brit Car club and last
weekend 350 miles to the Dixon Brit Car show and back. I garnered a
3rd place in the Winner's Circle class which is comprised of last
year's class winners. Not bad. The other Bay Area Marcos owners
didn't show their cars but I did talk to Steve Frey from Vallejo, CA
who now owns 3 !! He almost has his 1500 on the road.
