Type 9 5 speed box

Type 9 5 speed box

2005-05-09 by Ash

Good evening all,

I would like to get the advice of any one who has fitted the Ford type
9 (N) 5 speed box to the Frod essex engined cars.

I am in the process of carrying out just this and would like to know
how people dealt with the clutch mechanism.

I currently have the correct bellhousing to fit the engine to the box,
it is from my original 4 speed 2000e box which used a hydraulic clutch.
The problem I am trying to over come is finding a suitable clutch
release bearing which fits both the type 9 box (the sleeve which
covers the input shaft and the bearing slides on), and the 2000e
bellhousing?

in short the original 2000e box used a hydraulic push cylinder, with a
pivot on the same side as the slave cylinder.
the type 9 box used a cable pull mechanism which has a pivot point on
the opposite side to the cable pull.

I have to use the hydraulic mech, but of course the original realease
bebearing internal diameter is too small for the new box. It also uses
quite a special fixing to stay attached to the arm.

any help, links etc. much appreciated!
thanks
Ash
