Carbs and other things

Carbs and other things

2006-06-15 by mgacoupe1959

Thanks for all the great info on the carbs. ( it seems nobody posts
for a while then a flurry of activity) It seems that this may be
more difficult than anticipated, I had thought that since there are
some Volvo racers that there would be a performance parts source, on
the other hand most probably race four cylinders ( I know of a
pretty fast P544) and rarely six. In West Virginia we're known for
our ingenuity ( OK, were known for other things but I can't mention
those) so this may call for bailing wire and a Four barrel Holley
600cfm.
My poor old Lotus Europa came with two Zenith Strombergs, but a few
years ago I made a rather simple steel plate as an adapter and now
it has two SU HS4s, so this may be an option. The reason I'm
thinking about this would require a post longer than War & Peace so
I might get in to that later ( I'm a slow typer)
Actually I went to see Hayes about a JPS Twin Cam Europa, but the
Marcos was there and I bought it a few weeks later without even
driving it. I was concerned about the very large puddle of
transmission fluid, but after driving it some the leak magically
disappered, and I've really had more problems with the brakes ( a
spongy pedal, and they don't work too good) but Hayes was kind
enough to send me some rear wheel cylinders and this helped some.
Also I do have a chassis vibration so I'm contemplating new round
black things with holes in the middle but I have the original Marcos
wheels with the fancy emblem cast into them and I cringe thinking
about someone putting those on a tire machine.
I called Hayes this morning and asked him about the homemade
spyder. He thinks it probably has more than 1000 miles on from the
general condition. Apparently the previous owner ( in some circles
this is referred to as the DPO, despised previous owner) thought the
car was too hot so he cut off the top. Hayes has the top and rear
screen. He was kind enough to give me the chassis number, which is
simply 8006, no prefix or engine designation, although it has an
Essex V6. Nor is there a paint designation, but it does indicate
that it was built in 1971. Also, if anyone cares, the 58 Magnette
was the same one sold at VIR last October.
If you use enough Rain-x and go really fast the water just beads up
and goes away, a comforting thought as you hydroplane into calamity.
Also, totally not Marcos related, I'm getting excited because next
week I'll be heading to Gatlinburg TN. Every five years the New
England MG T register, North American MGA register, the MGB club,
and MGC club have a joint meet. I'll be taking the TC, which
doesn't have any brakes either but you can't go too fast in it
anyway. It has two speed wipers too, slow and stop. But you can
fold down the windscreen and collect plenty of bugs as you smile
away. Anyone interested should go to www.mg2006.com Although I'll
take the TC I plan to hang out with the MGA's, they're all from
Michigan and know how to party .
Enough rambling

You might want to look into this company.
http://www.prirace.com/induction.htm

They adapt Kehein <sp?> racing carbs to automotive use, making their own manifolds.
Cost is on par with or cheaper than Webers, and LOT cheaper than adding digital injection.

I suspect your Volvo six would not be that different than the Triumph GT-6 conversion
they already do.
As a bonus, the Kehein conversion is lighter and more compact than Webers.

I may end up with a set of these on the Alfa 2.0 I intend to put in my own car.

Thanks, I went to the site and it looks promising, but how do you
pronounce Keihin?
