I
don't know about the rear axle; this is Tim Good's old car, he was active in the
marcos-gang in the UK (Liverpool located).
The
sump has been strongened with an extra layer of metal sometime in the past,
guess some previous owner has experienced a speedbump or something. Familiar
stuff...
I
haven't seen the oilpressure drop yet, but only on testplates I really haven't
given the car a full blow out, neither. I'll keep an eye on the
meter.
But
yes; the wheel disappeared for me yesterday, when going to the test station.
Rainy weather and slippy road, a bit too much on the accelerator out of a
roundabout... But it was very easy to control ;-)
Right
now I am negotiating with a guy to swap my Elan +2s and my Jaguar XJ6 in a newly
restored Sunbeam Tiger 289 cu... Guess that car is hard to drive on wet surface
,-)

A
few comments as I read it.
First
the classic "what happened with serial numbers" mine is a 3LV6 registered in
December 1969 with Chassis No 3M/5528.
From
the pictures the Radiator shown is the standard as fitted, Its a British
Leyland 1800 rad with modified input and output. Does the job OK. see drawing
on the Ezboard message board site pictures.
As
you have Flared wheel arches and a 5speed box I would suspect you also have a
replacement rear axle. The original Cortina one has the wrong Ratio for the
engine 3.55 to 1, a left over from the 1600 Cortina engined cars. You probably
now have the wider Capri axle, hopefull the 3.09 to 1 ratio, a fairly common
mod as it improves the overall gear ratios. But there are others. The proper
job (?) is to shorten the axle to fit without modifying the body. This is why
the later cars developed the flaired arches.
Take
care when driving as you still have the origional early Essex engine with the
sump at the front. When accelerating hard, especially uphill, you will loose
ALL Oil pressure as the oil runs to the back away from the oil pickup, caused
me a panic the first time I saw the gauge drop to zero. Also if you get any
dips in the road the sump will hit the ground. I expect if you look at the
underside it is already scraped.

luck with the registration, I hope your bureaucrats are more helpfull than the
ones in England.
It
may be a 38 year old car but it can still give a lot of modern cars a run for
their money, especially the handling. Only real problem is if you give it too
much throttle in the wet you WILL spin the rear wheels, but it comes back as
soon as you ease off.
