Is it worth saving??

Is it worth saving??

2007-07-23 by Björn-Anders Haverstad

I have just aquired 3M/5447, a 1969 steel bodied V6.
Searching other Marcos owners in Norway, I sent a mail to a guy in
the west part of our country.

He called me back tonight, offering his steel-chasied, Volvo engined
3 litre for a unnormal low sum. When he said why, I understood why
the asking price was so low...

The car went up in flames a couple of years ago, when returning from
Nurburgring.
Only the steel chassis, engine and axles incl wheels, remains. Body
and interior is long gone...

Is this a car worth restoring, or should I let it pass me by?
Is it possible to buy a new body - and if so; at what price?
Is it possible to build a convertilbe of it?

Regards
Bjorn-Anders

I would be concerned that any fire fierce enough to destroy the body and interior would also have caused significant damage to the metal parts that remain, including distorting the the chassis out of alignment, and affecting the strength of the steel.

Hi Bjorn-Anders,

what price Robort did ask for the outburned chassis?

It would be great if you will send some pics from your car for our German Marcos website and the "Owners Gallery".

Website is: www.marcos-cc.de

As well you are invited to join the Marcos Euregio Meeting 2007 21-23. September on the Nürburgring. You have the possibility to drive Friday the complete - old & new - circuits as Trackday for 2 sessions and Saturday 2 regularity runs on the famous "Nordschleife" and Sunday probably 45 minutes on the GP-circuit. Price is 150 € for a Marcos Team = 2 persons, races, Marcos parking in the paddock, free entrance to all Grandstands, pits and all Classic races on this weekend.

We have arranged nearby a Hotel for around 65 € per night & 2 persons including continental breakfast and will have Marcos Barbecue on Saturday evening.

Would be great if you can make it and will surely send you more details. Pictures from 2005 & 2006 you will find on the German Marcos website.

Christian

Hi Christian,
As I also spend time playing in a band, I'm sorry I can't make it to Germany on that September weekend; I'm on a stage playning for lot of drunk people...

And yes; I'll put up some photoes of my GT, just have to get it thru the test first, and get some registrationplates on it.... I'm off for a new exhaust system this week, hopefully I'll get the car thru the test next week....
