1969 Sunroof Spare Parts

2009-04-08 by ANDREA CATTON

Hello there Marcos Maniacs,
I am now into my 16th year of rebuild of my 1969 2 ltr V4 and was wondering if any of you have or know where i can get my hands on the following spare parts?
I am after 6 off chrome tube nut and bolts used to fix the side frames of the sunroof frame to the body work.
I am missing a couple and the ones i have left are rusty and have seen better days.
I am also after a replacement front metal plate.
The original i have although it is rust free is bent in several places and has never fitted the contours of the roof when the sun roof is closed.
I have attached a couple of photos of the items required.
I have tried Marcos Heritage Parts but the items are no longer available off the shelf.
I am looking for as new condition if that's possible.
Thanks in anticipation, Mick

Mick,
I just made a set of those fasteners for Ron Mcleod's Marcos and would be glad to make you a set. Send me your address and I will post you a set. You can email me direct (lmeadowsw@...).
Where do you live?
If you can't find a replacement front piece, I can rework it for you. I have done a couple of these of which one was quite rusty.
Best regards,
Larry

Mick,
There is a VW sunroof, complete (used) on eBay you might want to check on. The front piece is the same as the Marcos. The bid is 77.00 POUNDS.
Item number: 170318061086
THIS IS THE ITEM NUMBER

Hi Mick, I'm pleased I'm not the only one in double digit years of restoration! I am on my 13th year I think, I have converted my V4 to a V6 on the home straight now! where abouts are you located?

Mick,
I have your parts. Will post them in the morning. I am sending the (stainless) screws with the nuts. They polished up real nice.

I also own a 1969 V4 and have had problems with the sun roof. Got a beautifully made fabric replacement from Larry here, and have used the last week to make up new (stainless) metal parts. That is - both the front and rear end plates, including the angular and rolled metal strips. It's not been an easy task but I hope it'll fit. Will find out the next week, as I first need to sandblast and prime/paint the mechanism "box" before commencing.

Good luck to you
