Hello:

Is this the same car that was in Geogia last year?

it looks nicer or are the photos hiding the defects of the other car?

I think the car that was in Georgia was dark blue. I'm pretty sure this is a totally different car. Must be a lot of Marcos guys in Nova Scotia !

I think the car in Ga. you are referring to was Gary Divers car. It was set up for racing. No interior to speak of and a roll bar. Also had the master cylinder reservoir in the cockpit on the passengers side.

Hey all,

This particular car in N.S.has been floating around for about a year on different sites for sale.
I think its overpriced.

I don't know what local prices are so I'm reluctant to say its overpriced but it's more in line with what I'd expect to pay for a wooden chassis V6 in the UK.

Re: 1970 V6 FS in Eastern Canada

2012-01-10 by MarkD

Hello all,
I can shed some light on this car as I have seen it in person. The car has lived most of its life on Prince Edward Island. The present owner bought a year or so back and has now found an old XK120 to buy, which is his first love as he is doing a frame off on an XK140 at present. If anyone wants we took about 75 pictures of the 70 metal frame and I would be happy to share them. It is in very good condition from top to bottom. As to the dark blue one that was in Ga, it was also purchased and transported to this same person in Cole Harbour,NS.
In late October I made a trip to Cole Harbour and bought the dark blue one and it is now in Iowa. It is going thru a complete restoration at present. Completely stripped apart and a shell now.

Don,
My car is 3/5349 and I have a fair amount of history that came with it and it is at home in a file. I also have the original built sheet showing the options at purchase and was told one of the few that came to states with wire wheels. Please keep in mind I am very new to Marcos so I am on a steep learning curve.

Don,

Mount Vernon, Iowa 52314 If you need anything else just let me know.
I think I will build a photo file over time of my progress but I will look over the files first.

Are you the Don in Willits, Ca? I would gather not as he was the person that sent me to this group.

You had said your color was a Lotus color, do you know the name of it and your car looks great by the way. My car was what Rory calls light silver blue which I have found a cross reference to on our side of the pond. It would be lighter and more silver than your blue. So I did a quick look at your photos and see you have a filter on the carb and it fits. Mine had about the same filter but was compressed to fit.
So how many of these are state side and of what variety?

Hi All

My son and I just started restoring a 1965 Marcos #4030 if any one has any
paper work or manuals on it, it would be helpful. It has a Volvo engine,
Weber carbs and IRS with wire wheels. It is dark blue and has been in a
garage covered by boxes since 1980 . When we tried to roll it out we
discovered the rear wheels were locked up. The car is now in Saratoga
Springs, NY. If anyone wants to see any pictures of it let me know and I
will send you what I have. Thanks

1965 Marcos #4030

Steve,

Your car is a rare one! First time I've been aware of its existence. I'll add it to the registry. Add some pix to the "photos" section. There are 2 in Syracuse and one in Dundee. I'm from Geneva,NY.

Welcome to the forum!

Marcos #3 5349

2012-01-11 by Don

Mark,

Don't know the color. Guy who did some paint work for me passed away and I didn't get the color code. Any paint shop should have it. Color codes from 1969 are on this page:

http://www.marcoscars.net/mycar.htm

Air filter is different now. I'll add a pic to my photo album.

With the addition of Steve's car, the number of Marcos in North America (yes, including Alaska and Puerto Rico)that I'm aware of is 85.

I think the car in Ga. you are referring to was Gary Divers car. It was set up for racing. No interior to speak of and a roll bar. Also had the master cylinder reservoir in the cockpit on the passengers side.

I think the car that was in Georgia was dark blue.
I'm pretty sure this is a totally different car. Must be a lot of Marcos guys in Nova Scotia !

Gary moved back to the UK. Last Word I had, he was in some bicycle Tour back in '04, I think. He had his cars shipped from Atlanta in '09, if I remember correctly.

Hi Don
Thanks for getting back to me about our car and adding us to the regerstry. As being new to the Marcos make I really do not know much about the car, you mention that it is a rare car. What makes it rare? If you or anyone else can answer that question I would like to learn about the car.
Thanks
Steve

Your car is a rare one! First time I've been aware of its existence. I'll add it to the registry. Add some pix to the "photos" section. There are 2 in Syracuse and one in Dundee. I'm from Geneva,NY.

Well, if my memory serves me, there were 99 1800GTs' built with the 4cyl. Volvo engine (#4001-4099). Of these I believe only 33 or so had the DeDion IRS. You have one and there aren't many left.

Here's an ad from Nov. 2011 for one:

Mark,
I'm the guy in Georgia that owned your Marcos for a short while. It is the first Marcos that I had the pleasure to drive. (although I had owned 2 1800 models about a year earlier needing full restoration) The gentleman I purchased the car from had a collection of older cars and just handed me the keys to drive a couple of them. I drove a late 70s Maserati Merak just after driving the Marcos and it felt like I was in my granny's grocery getter compared to the Marcos! Here is my video I posted of driving the car....please excuse the poor sound quality but you can still hear the beautiful exhaust note..

E,
Thanks for the post and information on the car. I had seen the video before I bought the car from Anthony. Can you assist with any additional history of the car? I have all the records that came with the purchase but it is always fun to put the history together as you look back. Any reason your ownership was so short?

Don,
Thanks for the new photos and that is the same filter I just bought to use on my car. I like the other new picture showing all your nice awards from shows. Very nice indeed!
I can only hope to get mine near that finish.

unusual cars and the restoration of them.

I live in San Diego California.

I used to make fun of people who drove british cars.
My folks are Scottish but

I grew up with Porsche and Volkswagons.
Later Audi's.

A few years ago I met a car guy that had Jaguars.
He did not like German cars so we decided to trade cars one weekend.
He got my Audi S4 and I drove his mint XK 140.
He really liked the Audi and I had to eat my words about british cars.
The xk 140 was just a very fun car to drive. People waved and honked.
I really got kick out the experience.

Anyway today I have:
1974 TVR 2500 M
1986 TVR V8 Wedge
1965 Mini Marcos Project

2007 Lotus Super 7 Kit Yamaha Bike Engine

2002 Ginetta G20

They are very fun cars to own and drive.

Best Regards
Robin Gilmour

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Re: 1965 Marcos #4030

Robin,

It is quite a short story really. After I sold the car to Peter Atkins of
the Watford Motor Accessories one of his mechanics took the car and shipped
it to California. This must have been about 1969.

The car was advertised in Road and Track in 1971 in Torrence, California.
It seems that it was bought by a man who never used it. He moved to Yucca
Valley and then died. The people who inherited his estate were under a
court order to tidy up their yard when my friend Paul Steinbeck arrived with
a box of chickens (his wife was working for a supermarket whilst doing her
law degree). As it was a big box he went round the back of the building and
saw the remains of this wooden car. It had suffered pretty badly from the
heat and dry conditions as the plywood had de-laminated. Any way they said
"if you want it you can have it as long as you take it away pronto" Paul,
who is a cabinet maker, took it away and then started researching its
background. Eventually he found me and I decided to take a trip to Yucca
Valley to see it.

Having seen it and discussed the possibility of rebuilding it I agreed to
buy it back. Paul is currently rebuilding it, although progress has been
very slow. As you will appreciate it is now a "historic racing car" and
would be eligible for the Nurburgring and Goodwood not to mention the new
series being promoted by Julius Thurgood for GT cars of that age with the
Historic Racing Drivers Club (HRDC).

Paul lives at :

1328 N Inca Tr

Landers

California 92285 Tel: 001 760 364 3897

I believe he is building a second car using the patterns from mine as a
template.

If you can find the time it might be worth going to see him. He is pretty
worn out at present nursing his mother. However I would love to have some
photos of the progress.

Best wishes,

John
