Dave, ;Because the power windows in my '69/'70 car do not currently operate (the whole car does not operate either!), I have looked closely at the mechanism which consists of an electric motor and a small scissors jack assembly which raises and lowers the glass- also called a regulator. It looks like a generic 1960s British power window assembly. Since I was parting out a Jaguar Mk 10 (same as a later 420G) with power windows, I removed two of the assemblies. They look like the same motor, though the long "screw" part of the Mk 10 regulator is longer. It looks like I can combine the Marcos regulator and the Jag motors to end up with working units. I haven't attempted this yet, as I have a lot more important details to attend to first. Maybe this weekend, I will try to confirm if the parts interchange. Any other leads anyone?

Thanks Donny
I have sandblasted all the crud off the "scissor" (its amazing
how much crap collects on something buried inside a door}
There is a part # stamped onto the arm which reads...7960626 RH.
........7960627 LH..I have the left hand "scissor" the right hand one
was missing when I bought the car. I have been to the "Big 3" parts
guys and the #'s don't match anything they have on record.....I
thought it might be a Ford piece as I know that Jag used some Ford
stuff in the 60's.
    Any leads greatly appreciated

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Re: Power Windows

2002-03-21 by pauldransfield@iname.com

Hi guys,

While everyone has power windows on their minds, I thought it would be an
appropriate time to ask if anyone has replaced or restored the door glass.
The passenger window on my car became dislodged last fall and I have been
intending to rectify the problem before the season starts next month. It
appears that the channel into which the glass is mounted has corroded, so it
probably entails removing the mechanism and doing something to arrest the
rust before putting it back together. Has anyone undertaken a task similar
to this? I'd be intersted in finding out the best way to accomplish the task
with the least amount of down time. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

The part numbers would appear to be BMC or Triumph type reference numbers. I
would check with some of the bigger suppliers (like Rimmer Bros) for
listings on MG, Mini, or possibly TR4,5,6,Spitfire.

Re: Power Windows

2002-03-21 by dbarton62

Hi Paul & Group
I have got the windows out of my car at the moment ........
the power window setup is pretty easy to remove there is a frame
behind the f'glass substructure that the regulator bolts to .
Undo the bolts and the whole mechanism should pull out .
I did replace both of the side windows on my car and to my surprise
they were not identical sizes one of the windows was about 2" taller
and about a half inch longer. I did also have the door window frames
stripped and powder coated to match the body color, they were also
(and obviously) different sizes which tells me that the molds, for the
door openings at least ,were less than perfect, not that it matters
after all they are basically hand built cars.
There have been quite a few surprises throughout my restoration
and I will put them down on paper at the end .......for the moment I
am trying to get the car finished in time for the Woodward Dream
Cruise in Detroit in August.........what do you think the musclecar
guys will think of a Brit car showing them up.?
              Cheers Dave #5577

Give it another shot. I was just updating the anti-virus software which
required a re-boot and you may have been hitting it then. You may also
have to hit refresh on your browser to get it to stop using cached
information.

Jeff,
Don't apologize, the site looks great, and seems to be working well
from what this "Maniac" has checked.
Questions on your car---are you still having drivability problems?
My petrol tank was corroded inside, I took it out this winter and had
it "renewed", Hopefully if this darn Minnesota weather cooperates
I'll be driving it in less than a month.
Are you the only member with a Ford 2.8 V6(German) on our list in the
US? I mention this because I have found a source for rebuilt Ford
T-9 five speed transmissions. From what I've learned so far this is
a bolt in exchange for the four speed with the first four ratios the
same as the four speed but and with a .80 O/D. I may have this
conversion done next winter depending on finances. I don't know if
this is also a bolt in exchange for the Essex(English)Ford 3 Litre.
The source is Pierce Manifolds who offers it in a conversion for MG's
with all the parts needed for the conversion. I was quoted $ 750.00
for just the rebuilt tranny which I've been told is not a bad price.
Just thought I'd mention it as right now I pull 4000 rpm @ 70 MPH,
the O/D would drop it to about 3200 rpm, easier on me and the
engine...
All for now,
Paul

Hi All,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I just (minutes ago) got our
web-site back on-line.
I apologize for the downage and hope it didn't inconvenience anyone too
bad.

Please LMK if you see anything wrong, or have any troubles with the
site.
It seems OK from my end, but nothing is as good a test as you Marcos
Maniacs.

Have fun!

RE: [MarcosManiacs] Re: Web-site update... We're baaaaaaack!!!!!

2002-03-25 by Jeff Caraway

Hi Paul,
Thanks for giving the site a check.

I did get the drivability problem solved (with much appreciated help
from Mike Denman!). It took a while to track it down, but it turned out
to be a flaky ballast resistor and condenser in the ignition system.

I think you and I are the only two members with the Cologne (German) 2.8
Liter V6. I haven't heard of any other cars over here having that
engine.
That's really cool news about the transmission. I haven't priced
transmissions lately, but that doesn't seem too far out of line for
something of this nature. I'd be very interested in the source
information. I may look into this at some point as my car seems to be
developing shifting problems now that I have the other problem fixed.
There's always something isn't there? ;-)

Hope the weather clears for you soon,
Jeff

Jeff,
Don't apologize, the site looks great, and seems to be working well
from what this "Maniac" has checked.
Just thought I'd mention it as right now I pull 4000 rpm @ 70 MPH,
the O/D would drop it to about 3200 rpm, easier on me and the
engine...
All for now,
Paul

Dave, have you installed the springs/shocks you got from Summit
Racing yet?? I'm leaning in that direction vs. the "Active Handling"
kit. It would seem to me that having both adjustable springs AND
shocks would give much more flexibility than the static setup of the
Active Handling" kit. What were your thoughts when you made your
purchase decision?? Have you used them in other cars, etc?

Mine is off the jackstands and almost ready to ride!!! Found one
surprise this winter........whoever rebuilt the engine used 1 inch
bolts to attach the exhaust headers. That translates to about 1/8"
of the bolt threading into the head. And to think I drove it 3000
miles last summer and the headers didn't drop off! Luck! Since
replaced with stainless (the proper length).

Hope you make the "Cruise"!

Hi Don
I have installed them in my car .......it is only a rolling
chassis right now though but the suspension has a lot of adjustment.
However don't be misled ...the shocks aren't adjustable just the
springs......the decision to use that style of spring/shock set-up
is that the street rod guys use it as well as the stock car
guys.......it seems to work for them.
As I said when I first wrote about these shocks be sure you get the
correct "ends" for your application.I had to fab new brackets for the
rears on my car ( I was going to anyway)
               Cheers Dave #5577

Dave,

Thanks for the reply. I've checked out the shock company's website
and they have both adjustable and non-adjustable coil-over shocks.
They also have adapters like you fabricated. (go
to "Motorsports", "Drag and Street Shocks", "Accessories", Eyelet
Bottom Stud Conversion")

I didn't know if you had checked out this site or not. What would
you think of having both the springs and shocks adjustable?? Anyone
else have an opinion?

Don,
Having both adjustable would give you almost infinite adjustment
for ride comfort as well as ride control.
I didn't feel I needed to have the adjustable shocks I prefer a
stiffer ride ........kind of like seat of the pants feel
              Regards Dave #5577

Don,

I may have this wrong but I thought adjustable springs controlled the ride
height and adjustable shocks controlled the stiffness of the ride.
Personally, if it improves the handling, I prefer a stiff ride but there may
be a few amongst us who like it soft.

Hi therer everyone
On the topic of springs. I changed mine last year the ones that were
on the car were rubbing on the new shockers. Micael Royson lended me
a pair that he had laying around. The ride quality went from soft and
bottoming out (Silencers) to stiff! but predictable ( easy
controllable slides)Unfortunately they are a bit long and I thinking
about shortening them. What length and dia is the most used?

Painted half of the chassi after welding lying behind schedule as I
had a bike accident knee and chin and can not work on the car. But
really need too get the Marcos on the road again before I have a
serious accident =80

Nulla dies sines Marcos

Re: Power Windows/Springs/D Barton

Hi Paul
From what I understand , and I am not a suspension builder ,
the shorter the spring (the more it is compressed)the stiffer the ride
The shock controls the jounce (the rebounding of the suspension)
Herb Adams who is the designer of the early Pontiac Trans-Ams
suspension has
a great book out on the subject and he recommends using shorter
springs with the same spring rate as stock and stock shocks to improve
handling without harshening the ride.
              Regards Dave #5577
