Re: [MarcosManiacs] Tail Lights

Hi group,

Just to round out the discussion on tail light covers. I understand that the
covers used on my 1969 1600GT came from a Vauxhall. They are oval shaped
with rounded ends. Some of the later models had more of a square tail light
cover which I was told also came from a Vauxhall.

The previous owner of my car mentioned that the tail light covers were also
used on the Lotus Europa (he also owned a Europa) and that the Lotus club had
purchased all the available stock back in the 70's. I don't know if anybody
has started remanufacturing them but I would start any search with the Lotus
Club.

I believe I have a set of the early Vauxhall covers in my spare parts bin
that the previous owner had purchased from the Lotus club. He never threw
anything away, even worn out parts, so I have many boxes of bits and pieces.

The one item I am running low on are the toggle switches used on the
dashboard. One of them fails about once every two years and I believe I have
only one working switch left. Attempts to repair the worn out switches has
met with limited success. Does anyone have a source for them?

Michael,

I also had a problem with some dashboard switches, especially the headlight
switch, until I put relays in the circuits to take the heavy load. I haven't
had to replace a switch for at least 15 years now. The same goes for the
backup light switch on the side of the Volvo 3 litre gearbox. In the past
I've seen and purchased used switches at British sports car flea markets and
meets for around $10. The insides are usually interchangeable so it doesn't
matter what they look like on the outside.
