Mellotronists

In a few places in Frank's Mellotron Book, the double tracking, far 
left/far right recording technique is mentioned.  I thought that I 
would mention a quick method to get a similar effect when recording.
(can also be used in studio monitoring or live).

Record one track in mono (L=R).
Delay one channel approx 1/50 of a second.
Go easy on the reverb.....(somewhat less than the usual load)
(use longer delay time for a more obvious effect)
I've used longer delay times for stereo studio monitoring with great 
results.

Has anyone used something like this in a live setting?  I did a live 
demonstration in front of three friends.... It left them speachless.  
(awestruck).
