M-Tron gradually takes over processor

2004-11-02 by Babz

Hi List:

Any M-Tron users out there? Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas?

I'm using M-Tron 4.5 as a VSTi with Cubase SX 1.0.6. and Windows XP,
AMD Athlon XP 1.52 gHz processor and 512MB of RAM, with a Frontier
Designs Wavecenter PCI soundcard. I'm using Cubase as a virtual
instrument host ONLY -- no tracks, no other plugins.

When I first open a project and start using a single instance of M-Tron
the VST processor meter is showing about 20%. As I play chords and
notes over time the processor meter begins to rise. It never
decreases, only increases. Eventually it reaches 80-90% and overloads.
The only way to clear the problem is to revert or close the project
and reopen it.

Is there an update to fix this bug? M-tron is unusable for me like
this! It happens every time I use it. It usually takes 5 minutes or
more, depending on how many notes I'm playing. If I set up an
arpreggiator to play continually I can get it to happen within minutes.
This problem only happens with M-Tron and does not occur with other VI
plugins (Oddity, Arturia Moog, etc.)

Changing buffer settings has no effect on the problem. I have tried
everything from 64 to 512 buffer and the problem is the same. A higher
buffer setting might make it take a little longer before it builds up
to 80-90% processor overload, but it still happens a short time after
playing. The odd thing is that the processor meter never goes back
down, even when I stop playing. As I continue to play, it just keeps
gradually getting higher, and the longer I keep playing M-Tron the more
it keeps rising. Also, if I hold notes, especially in the higher
octaves, it seems to happen sooner.

Any help appreciated? I sent this same message to GMedia, but so far
no reply. The only other thing I can think of is to try a different
VSTi host, maybe V-stack (?)

Thanks,
Babz
