M-Tron gradually takes over processor

M-Tron gradually takes over processor

2004-11-02 by Babz

Hi List:

Any M-Tron users out there? Has anyone experienced this? Any ideas?

I'm using M-Tron 4.5 as a VSTi with Cubase SX 1.0.6. and Windows XP,
AMD Athlon XP 1.52 gHz processor and 512MB of RAM, with a Frontier
Designs Wavecenter PCI soundcard. I'm using Cubase as a virtual
instrument host ONLY -- no tracks, no other plugins.

When I first open a project and start using a single instance of M-Tron
the VST processor meter is showing about 20%. As I play chords and
notes over time the processor meter begins to rise. It never
decreases, only increases. Eventually it reaches 80-90% and overloads.
The only way to clear the problem is to revert or close the project
and reopen it.

Is there an update to fix this bug? M-tron is unusable for me like
this! It happens every time I use it. It usually takes 5 minutes or
more, depending on how many notes I'm playing. If I set up an
arpreggiator to play continually I can get it to happen within minutes.
This problem only happens with M-Tron and does not occur with other VI
plugins (Oddity, Arturia Moog, etc.)

Changing buffer settings has no effect on the problem. I have tried
everything from 64 to 512 buffer and the problem is the same. A higher
buffer setting might make it take a little longer before it builds up
to 80-90% processor overload, but it still happens a short time after
playing. The odd thing is that the processor meter never goes back
down, even when I stop playing. As I continue to play, it just keeps
gradually getting higher, and the longer I keep playing M-Tron the more
it keeps rising. Also, if I hold notes, especially in the higher
octaves, it seems to happen sooner.

Any help appreciated? I sent this same message to GMedia, but so far
no reply. The only other thing I can think of is to try a different
VSTi host, maybe V-stack (?)

Thanks,
Babz

I have the same version of M-Tron and have had no problems running
up to 4 instances in Cubase VST 5.1. Do you have the same problem
with the standalone version of M-Tron?

I've had a similar problem with the Moog Modular when playing
complex sequences.

Hi Babz,
I use M-tron with Cubasis VST 4.0.
Does the full version of Cubase SX have any example songs?
What happens if you bring up a sample song and try using M-tron
as a new instrument within that. On my version of Cubasis there
was some problem with VST instruments and the def.all default
template. I had to take one of the example songs, strip everything
off, tracks and all. VST instruments then worked ok. So then save
that as your def.all arrangement. I can't remember what the orginal
problem was I had so don't know if this will help.

RE: [Mellotronists] M-Tron gradually takes over processor

2004-11-05 by Dagfinn H

Hi Babz,

I use M-Tron regularly with Sonar 3 Producer Edition (on a Toshiba Satellite
1900-102, ram: 512), and I've never (so far) run into this problem. But the
VSTi is a bit harsh on the resources, so I had to adjust the buffers. That
solved the problem. You may want to give Sonar a spin (there's a downside
though - the software is nearly $1000).

Regards,

D

It's not quite that much, is it? Wait, yes, you're right! Wow!

I've been using Twelve Tone Systems stuff since Cakewalk 3 and just loaded
up SONAR 4 Producer. I'm amazed--it's getting to the point where there
isn't anything it can't do now. I only wish I used it more than about four
times a year before the next upgrade comes out.

Unfortunately SONAR 4 really likes to crap out on my system (especially
when using software instruments like the Arturia stuff---it crashes). But
they just released a patch for SONAR 4, so I'm sure it'll get more stable.

I have used the sampler included w/ one of the versions of SONAR to sample
#805 just to see how it'd work. Pitch stretching is awful stuff - I'd have
to record all 35 keys for sure. But I'm content using the real deal.

Recently I picked up an ARP 1623 hardware sequencer. Now *that* is
fun. It is controlling an MG-1, Minimoog, and PolySix (the arpeggiator
trigger). Add in #805, and it's instant Berlin School. (Sorry, that's
about the extent of my musical ability. :-) )

...kl...
M400 #805 - instant anything, just add hands
M400 #1037 - wants to go to school, too
