M300 question

M300 question

2007-02-16 by charel196

I just picked up the BJH LIVE remaster and it got me thinking...did
anyone ever put MK2 sounds on their 300? Did they sound any different
as a result of the 300 amplifiers? I can see it might've been cool to
have the M300 strings and the MK2 strings on separate tracks...MK2
brass...maybe later the choir and cellos from the 400 library. I think
it would have been a nice configuration to eliminate a lot of those
stock 300 organ-ish sounds and replace them with more orchestral stuff.

Hi,
I have mostly MkII & M400 sounds in my M300. The M300 preamps are
quite dull compared with other trons. I demonstrated this to myself
recently by plugging the M300 headblocks into my M400 preamp using a
coax extension lead - quite a difference!
I'd quite like to retro fit WME290's into my M300 but the voltages are
reversed in the 300 so I don't think it can be done.

Cheers
John

hi John could you list what sounds you have in your 300? I'll bet Jerry Korb could help
you with the amplifier/voltage wiring stuff. Jerry? Of course you could always run the 300
thru a high quality external parametric EQ or similar. I always thought an internal digital
reverb would be great in trons but I realize it's not "authentic" :)

Jerry, are the PML boards also silicon?

Hi Charles and Gang, Aleady contacted JKB about his enquiry.
Awaiting his response.

Checked the EQ response in M300/037 . LH (rhythms) seem to
boost the bass , whilst the RH (leads) accent the treble. By design, probably.
M300 preamps contain germanium transistors, which have been known
to be a bit noisy. Same as those in SFX Console. M400's preamp/lineamps
WME289/290 's are silicon-based life-forms.

Aw nuts!!! That means mine has implants. No wonder it sticks out!
