Hi, newbie here,

I don't have a credit card, and i don't want Pinder's $200+ CD... How
else can I get a sampled mellotron?

I tried downloading the freebies from the internet and working with
them on Gigastudio, but it's horrible (esp. the choir)

Does anyone in this group use a sampler?

There are no good free Tron samples. If you want good samples, you
have to expect to pay for them. $200 is a bargain for all the samples
on the Pinder CD.

Well, for those that can't afford a real 'Tron yet--like your truly, I
would suggest checking the following websites:

The first one that gave me the OMG! reaction was the 'String Box'
collection from the folks of 'Sonic Implants', located 'Here
<http://www.sonicimplants.com/Products/vintageimplants.htm>'.
Listen to the Mellotron Demo, and it nearly brings tears to your eyes...
:) Now, the neat thing is if you have a Creative Labs Sound Blaster
Live! series card for your 'puter, you may or may not know that along
with the card and the MIDI software that comes along with it (Most
likely 'Cakewalk lite', but you still have 256 'voices' available to
you. :) ), along with this is something called 'Sound Fonts'-which is
what the 'String Box' set is.
Just load these things onto the 'puter, and your all set to go! The good
thing is that for about $60.00, you have the infamous Mellotron flute, 8
voice choir, and three string settings from the Mark II, Mark III, and
the classic Mark 400 series. You hear a quick bit of all of them on the
demo....imagine having that same sound coming of the 'puter speakers.... :D

Now, if you are using the VST-type plug-in's, there are some folks from
the UK that you can look up for 'Tron samples, they are called the
M-Tron plug-in's, and they can be found 'Here
<http://www.gmediamusic.com/gforce/m-tron/>' for an overview. I also
like the way the interface looks also. Very similar to the control panel
and keyboard of a real 'Tron, right down to the drink rings and
cigarette burns on the top panel. :)

Also, take a look at just how they got these samples done, and the
amount of sounds available....At the present there are two volumes out
now. Volume One Here
<http://www.gmediamusic.com/gforce/m-tron/index_nu.html>, and Volume Two
Here. <http://www.gmediamusic.com/gforce/m-tron/index_nu.html> They are
coming out with a Volume Three sometime soon. Outside of Mike Pinder who
used to be the original keyboard player for the Moodies, this is looking
to be the most extensive sounds of the 'Tron, and Chamberlin around.

And as far as I can make out, the volumes themselves cost about $50.00
each. :)

Just the Mike Pinder's Mellotron CD-ROM at the Mellotron
<www.mellotron.com> website costs $250.00.....anyway, the US address for
the 'M-Tron' software can be found below....

Firstly, the Pinder CD is 200.00, not 250.00 and
secondly, the M-Tron set sounds like a BAD
tron....yes, a tron...but a BAD tron...and who gives a
rats bum about that goofy resource stealing graphic?
Keep that stuff out of my "Puter" thanks.

Mark.

Thanks to all for your answers to my sample questions.

I have decided to buy every damn Tron sample I can find!

(Wait a minute ... maybe I could take all of that money and buy a real
TRON!!!)

Dear all
I keep being asked, via my site, what the 'best' 'Tron samples are. Not sure why people ask me - I own a Mellotron. :-) However, I've been thinking I should put a page up on the subject, as it ain't gonna go away. So far, I've listed these:
Hardware:
E-mu Vintage Keys module
Roland Vintage Synth module/expansion card(s)
Memotron
Software:
M-Tron
Sampletank
Pinder CD
JP Hovercraft downloads
There must be loads of others - can anyone help? I don't need detailed info (that's what the Internet's for), just pointers to any major sample providers I've missed.
Ta,
Andy T.

here's another:
http://www.hollowsun.com/cds/newtron_page.html

and another:
http://www.sonicimplants.com/ProductDetail.asp?Item=CDStringBoxes

...:
http://www.vintagekeyboardsounds.com/page_mellotron.html

can't say how good or bad any of them are.

i have a different cdrom at home [not from mellotron archives] that was
so awful i never used it after trying it out. glad it was given to me
because i would be demading a refund if i had paid for it... somebody
had bought it for their sampler and it was not compatible, and after
hearing it they didn't even want to bother converting it...
i can't recall who made it off the top of my head...

wondering why my pinder cdrom does not include clean versions...

And a v.good one, although it would involve me doing a bit of work... :-)
Typically, the M-VS1 is the only 'Tron sample set I can access, as it's what
I use live, but thanks for the offer! Not sure how I'd collate all the
various samples, though it'd be a bloody good resource...

Hi Andy,

If it's any help, I just got the Roland M-VS1 this week which include
several 'Tron-ish sounds. I'm happy to sample these for you to
compare, or to provide as samples on this page you're proposing to
build so that others can compare. Maybe have a grid of certain notes,
certain chords, all without effects, from different machines side by
side?

Just a thought!

Cheers,

Also Emu did the Classic Keys, like the VK but without the filters and with
effects. Even though it is the same samples they sound different because VK
has filters. Classic Keys has a hidden low pass filter if you dig deep enough
but not in the same class as VK.
