Demagging Heads

Demagging Heads

2003-09-19 by Blake

Howdy!
Anybody have any tips for demagnetizing the head block? Do you do
one head at a time (slow in, slow out, next head repeat, rinse
repeat) or can you just slowly sweep over each head once you're in
there?

Also - who on the list lives in Atlanta, GA and would be interested
in starting a multi-tron band for infrequent gig blowouts?

Sweepily,

Remove the entire head block and demagnetize one head at a time....

Hi All!

I think this is a topic worthy of comment by those repairers, restorers
and general gaddabouts of all things Mellodramatic to address. After
all, they've demagnetized everything they can get their hands on. Well,
JB should comment. That Martinge character knows nuffink.

So guys, what is the correct way to demag tron head blocks? And do you
do it differently when you're in Hollywood? And does Julia Roberts look
in person a lot like she does on the screen?

Rick

RE: [Mellotronists] Demagging Heads

Hi all-

Some say to unplug the lead from the head block to the preamp, whether
the block comes out or not. Is this also a "must"?

I have found that removing the headblock to demagnetize is not
necessary. But, if you should do so, be sure to short across the
contacts of the receiver plug at the back of the preamp box before you
plug the headblock back in or you run the risk of magnetizing the
headblock all over again... and the correct procedure is to only
demagnetize one head at a time.

	just my 2 cents.
