partly off topic - Gretch elec. piano
2004-07-09 by Chris Dale
Hello All:
An acquaintance has offered me his Gretch elec.
piano and a Leslie 825.
I'm familiar with the Leslie, but it's the Gretch
elec. piano I'm wondering about.
The piano was made for Gretch by Baldwin. Basically
it's along the same design as the Yamaha CP70 in that it has a real harp
assembly (albeit situated vertically like an upright).
Does anyone know the value of these pianos or how
many were made???? Please respond ASAP if you do. It could mean the difference
between whether the piano has a new home or is dumped in a humid storage
area.
On things mellotronic - I had the opportunity to
see the Strawbs perform this week. Very well balanced sound regardless
of where I went throughout the room.
They didn't have a mellotron, but their
PR/managment asked if I could provide them with one for an upcoming show later
in the year ;to which I of course said yes. They also recognized the Wakeman machine from a picture I had, and Dave
Lambert recalled playing it in the mid 70's.
They were nice to chat with and the band as a whole
put on an excellent performance. Those of you going to NEARfest to
see them will be in for a treat.
