Sundae Club and the rest

2004-10-21 by tronbros@aol.com

Dear All,

Despite Colin's attempts to promote himself and whether or not you agree with
it, this list has always been a stagnant pool of indifference to many
worthwhile questions, opinions and developments. What is the bloody point of this
group existing if there is bugger all response except where someone asks the
pathetically futile question of whether a track contains mellotron somewhere in
the inaudible frequencies? If that is the sole function of what happens here
then we might as well stick our heads in a septic tank and go BLAH.
Pointlessness and beyond.

So the here's the deal, get off your arses and say something, respond to
something, react to something or stay comotose in the grim knowledge that another
pointless message will be in your inbox tomorrow 'cos you subscribe to this
list.

What aubergine?

Beautifully put.

My attempts at shameless self-promotion have:

1) Generated a few more sales. Thank you! I sincerely hope you're
pleased with your new CD!
2) At least prompted a few reactions to assure me that you're all still
alive.
3) Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Now check out Woolly's disc. Without his efforts in the past, many of
us wouldn't be here reading this shite now.

Nitey nite!!

OK Martin, I agree. This list is stagnating.

I have no problem with promotion either. The sad thing is that there are a
few people that post a lot and a bunch of people that post a lot less. In the
near future I will probably order Collin's CD. Call me lazy. The saddest thing
about this list is that I think most members are afraid to overwhelm it.

Just to let some of you other folks know, I have a lot going on
"Mellotronicly." I am happy to share with you, my fellow Mellotronists, if you really want
to know. I keep my trons hard at work. I just fear that I would become a bore.
If anyone on the list wants to know what I'm up to please address the list so
I can share it with everyone.

Speaking of what's going on, Martin, I think it would be lovely if you would
share recent developments at Streetly with those of us on the list (you know
me) who actually might give a shit. I would love to know about how the
development of new Mellotrons are coming along. Don't be shy.

Just to share with the list, I will once again be at NEARfest this year with
at least two, and probably three or even four Mellotrons for a very young and
incredible Swedish band called Wobbler. I encourage all members of the list to
go to www.nearfest.com and go to the "Wobbler" site and download their MP3s.
This band if very "Mellotron" intensive, and they DO NOT use samples. Please
post your opinion to the list.

Thanks,

Frank Stickle

I must have spent an hour trying to figure out how to respond to this. The
above is something you've said on more than one occasion, Martin.

I finally gave up trying to come up with something. My brain hurts.

So I won't respond. Instead, I will ask you, Mr. Martingle Stagnacious
"Skippy" Smitherton, to explain yourself a little more so I can understand
what this "stagnant pool of indifference" is all about. For example, about
what developments are we supposed to get all jazzed?

I'm jazzed like mad knowing my beloved Mellotron is with Martin and John
getting a complete rebuild. It's been a long time in the works (ask Martin),
but I am completely sure it will be time and money well spent. After all
it's a MELLOTRON and I've owned it since 1975!

Maybe this won't excite some members of the list, but it's a project being
completed, and it's something happening now. It meets the fresh criteria.

<pulling head out of septic tank for a moment>

Well, the same could be said for every list I've ever been on. You
think the 'Watcher' questions get tedious? Try sitting through 10
years of discussing the TB-303 and various clones. Or why analog
synths are better than digital, or ....

In fact, you post, with minor editing, could be sent to virtually
all lists on the net.

IMHO, here's what happens:

Enthusiastic individual acquires instrument of their dreams, finds out
that there's others like him still around, joins up with others,
asks all the same questions, gets his machine running, is happy,
enters steady-state period where nothing is needed. Stays on the list
for the same reason co-workers go out for a pint after work - You
have something in common. After a while, you realize that there's
not much more to discuss, and are tired of rehashing the same stories
and questions every time a new member shows up, and in fact, you
really don't have that much in common with these folks other than
the item in question.

The fact is - the people and information associated with this list
has been invaluable to anyone who has purchased a used Mellotron,
but for day-to-day needs, a FAQ, some videos of a tech effecting
repairs, some on-line manuals and such would be sufficient.
