vintage footage.....

...for those of us who still only dream of a 'tron in the studio,
check out this vintage footage of the master at work. (But what is
that box on top of his MkII?? An amp, a monitor, Ray's flute and
tambourine carrying case??)

Wow, thanks for the link. I hadn't seen this particular clip before. I like
seeing a real live performance like this with all the sound warts, as opposed
to that infamous "live" DVD that came out a while back.

I recognize the thing Mike Pinder is playing, I have one like it in my living
room. Could this be Frank's MKII? If it is, I've played (I use that term
loosely) this very one.
Pictures of its restoration are on Ken Leonard's web site. The thing on top
of it looks like a Marshall head to me. If so, that's very interesting. I
think I recall someone on this list mentioning that Mike Pinder used to run his
MKII through a Marshall amp. This makes sense, since, if I'm correct, Mike's
MKII didn't contain an amp or speakers (to reduce weight), just a unique
transistor preamp.

Simply wow. Thank you so much for that link. I thought the recent
audio-only concert file was incredible, this was something I never expected
to actually see live images of. Exquisite footage, my compliments for
finding it!

I agree! Thanks for the great link. This really shows how great those guys
were. Not bad for a five piece band. Definitely a Marshall head on top of
the tron. and I found it interesting that he does not use the pitch bend all
the time like on the original recording. He definitely doubles on the left
keyboard during certain moments. Great video!!!! Now I want MORE..

I didn't want to wait 33 minutes for this clip to download, but if the
Pinder footage looks like it was shot close from his left side, I'll bet it's a
clip from Dutch TV (esp. if it's VERY poor quality video). If so, it's a
Marshall head.

Unfortunately, it's not. Ken, you and I viewed some of this footage when
you came through San Diego a few years ago. Elsewhere in the video there a
glimpse of the back of the MkII and it has the standard grillcloth (and, if
memory serves me correct - I'm too lazy this morning to toss the video in the
machine - the top reversed with the music stand hanging off the back ala the pic
on the back of ISOTLC). Pics have shown Mike to at least have this one, one
with horizontal slots on the back panel (no cloth) and one with vertical
slots (#134, now sitting in my little studio). It's great to hear a bona fide,
live, warts-and-all Moodies performance.
