Los Canarios/Il Rovescio Della Medaglia

Los Canarios/Il Rovescio Della Medaglia

"Ciclos" & "Contaminazione" IMHO are great albums, but different as
night and day. "Contaminazione" jumps all over the place/shifts on a
dime and is a roller coaster of soft passages and explosive
crescendos, whereas "Ciclos" drifts along at an easier pace. Both
gorgeous and very rehearsed sessions, indeed. RDM interprets J. S.
Bach; Canarios realises Vivaldi. I like the first side "The Remote
Paradise" best, and the other three sides bring up the same basic
theme and recycles it a bit, yet it does not get drawn out. The
highlight track for me on the RDM LP is "Ora Non Ricordo Pu'/Il Suono
Del Silenzio" with tons of rock riff guitar/synth and monstrous
cathedral reverb organ just blast away between these lush
orchestral/vocal passages and other condensed drama moments. I think
this is RDM's second album; the first-Io Como Io, I understand is a
lot different and bland compared to this hyperkinetic workout.

Two other interesting albums I was able to hear recently are Morse Code's
"La March Des Hommes" (which has a Gabriel era Genesis influence) and
"Pussy" (self-titled)-a pyschedelic/prog crossover comprising songs and
instrumental improvisation. Both have Mellotron on them.

Has anyone heard of Ramases? This was South African prog with members of
10CC as the backing band. Not sure if there's Mellotron on this one but I'm
told it's an interesting listen.

Chris

Their followup, 'Procreation', is excellent, too.

According to the booklet in the recent 3-CD Vertigo set, 'Ramases' was from
Yorkshire or somewhere, and you're right about the 10cc connection. Did a
2nd album in the mid-'70s (those were the days!), and ended up comitting
suicide, sadly. Haven't heard either album.
