As a simple synth engine, I still think the ESQ-1 was one of the most powerful and easy-to-use digilogs I have ever found. I loved them so much I bought two of them when they first came out, and found it to be a great live platform and a fun early workstation that helped me get comfortable with sequencing for the first time. Although today, I'm an ardent fan of Korg stuff, the M-1 couldn't hold a candle to the ESQ-1 for sonic power. Speaking of Korg, I'm walking on air today! The new replacement for my beloved X5D synths is out, the X50, and it covered almost everything I had on my wish list for an updated model, except for still more polyphony and portamento. I can't wait to get my hands on a few of them. Of course, that means there will be a handful of well-kept X5D's available on eBay in the next few months... A humorous aside - ever notice how many internet locations that permit you to submit comments require you to choose a "Mr., Ms., Mrs., etc." prefix? I signed on one a while back that had a long pull-down menu of prefixes, and as I really hate those things, I chose "HRH" (His Royal Highness) since it was offered, and I apparently ended up on some mailing lists because I now receive spam and land-mail addressed to HRH Jon Salley. Not only am I an asshole, I am a ROYAL asshole.
