what's up with anonymity ?

2006-07-01 by John Hofmeyer

Please excuse my ignorance - but really, what is the deal
with these anonymous owners? Is there some sort of Mellotron
hitman on this list? A popular/famous musician owns a
mellotron - what is there to hide?

I do understand if the owners are clients of list-members.
But its not like they are medical patients or in need of
legal services; cases where privacy is a very sensitive and
private issue.

They own a cool, limited production instrument! What's the
big deal about letting the 400+ people on this list know who
they are?

Even at the risk of losing their business - I would probably
pay more attention to {insert popstar here}'s music if I knew
they owned a mellotron.

Anyhow - I assume that #717 has been recorded in the annals
of Mellotron existence, since the request for seriel numbers
came out immediately after my declaration of ownership.

John Hofmeyer
M400 #717

[ let's keep my name a secret, outside of this list,
though.... I'd hate for hometown security to come knocking at
my door in search of my immigrated instrument ]

I wholeheartedly agree in principle. What's the big f'ing deal? HOWEVER,
in the case of my list (and Jerry's accounting for #104), some owners OK'd
being included on the list with the provision that their identities would not be
revealed (for whatever the reason). I found this was acceptable and have
honored those requests in the interests of having as complete a list as I could
possibly get.

I did realize that, perhaps, some folks (err, folk in some
English speaking countries) may think they would be inundated
by requests to purchase their instruments.

np: Starless & Bible Black

Several tunes with "3 Violins" (...excuse me, but I've
switched from martinis to Budweiser). I've recently started
dating a violinist, with whom I've been swapping CDs. The
first disc she brought over was Jeff Buckley. I've heard it
before, but didn't realize there was so much mellotron on it!

I took her to see Zappa plays Zappa, last week. She claims
that the show was worth 4 CD exchanges. I think the first
exchange will be the aforementioned 'Starless...' - though
she did seem interested in my "H to the He" Van Der Graff Gen
album. Don't have on CD, though.

whatever happened to the Charisma label?

Personally I am proud to mention my 31 years of ownership of my M400SM (check the new photos on here), if you care to. It was taken at Streetly in a very clever fashion with both Martin and John standing behind my crated treasure just prior to returning to balmy Florida.
An ex Moraz Mark V eh? Nice fellow as I had the privilege of meeting him on several occasions. He has been recording out Orlando for some time. Jerry is it for sale?
I think I know the answer to that question.
Happy Fourth of July!

The owner of M400 #104 in Bucks County, PA is not a
member of the Tron List. He also does NOT have email.
I got his contact information from a third-party and
spoke with him on the phone on several occasions.

Speaking of 104, I have Novatron 5/104 here for some
R&R at the Ranch. Formerly owned by Patrick Moraz.
This MK-V Tron can be seen on several Moodies' videos
