Hi list, how do I go about reading .fpd files? By the way, I drive a MAC. I'm building a CGS VCO, and I'm interested in ideas for an all bells and whistles panel. Cheers Stuadh

You need the schaeffer-apparatenbau front designer software, I think is PC only, but may be it works in MAc using virtual PC. I would like to know if this is something a mac can run as well? Is there any advantage with type of file over say a .pdf? Is the PC the defacto module builders platform? best regards, Nick --- stuadh <stuadh@...> wrote: > > Hi list, > > how do I go about reading .fpd files? I use Virtual PC on my mac which works great for FPD files. Charles.

Hi Stuadh, while PDF (Portable Document Format) is a proprietary but nevertheless generic file format FPD files are used to control the CNC machines of Schaeffer Apparatebau. Frontpanel Designer is a dedicated CAD software to design frontpanels and generate this files. I'm running a Mac too. Since I'm refusing to use Virtual PC and Windoze I was using Frontpanel Designer for a short while on an old PC in the office. But I'm about to switch to Photoshop since I got a license on the Apple and I don't need to get panels machined. I've heard from several people that Frontpanel Designer is doing ok under VPC. I myself got it running under Linux/wine. I'd have loved it if there was a native Mac version but then ... HTH, :-) Michael. --- In ModularSynthPanels@yahoogroups.com, <almagata@t...> wrote:

sorry, forgot: You get the FP Designer from http://schaeffer-apparatebau.de Michael. --- In ModularSynthPanels@yahoogroups.com, "tontaub" <egroups@b...> wrote:

This may be too much to ask. I don't use a pc . Many audio folk don't and students and others. I get a little frustrated when I bump into a .fpd file that I really want to see. Can those who posted .fpd files send giff, tiff, text or jpeg versions along with the .fpd until a a universal viewer becomes available. I know Shaeffer has been promising a mac and unix version of their app for years but thus far nothing... Thganks

Hi - It is asking a lot. Front Panel Designer doesn't have a way to export images natively, so you'd have to print out the design, then scan it, and then post it. Just so you could look at it - it's not like you can do much else with pictures. I also use a mac. I run vmware fusion on it, and have a windows xp setup mainly so I can run the odd program like front panel designer that doesn't have a mac version. I used to use virtual pc, which while quite slow, was perfectly useable for running front panel designer. I highly recommend vmware if you have an intel mac. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for schaeffer to port their app to mac - something tells me it's one of those things that sounds like a great idea, but as long as they get enough business doing things the way they are currently, it's going to sit on the back burner indefinitely. If it makes you feel better, I'll print out and scan a few of the fpd files here - just let me know which ones you want, and try not to go crazy. --- In ModularSynthPanels@yahoogroups.com, "adaaxs" <wonggster@...> wrote: > > This may be too much to ask. Actually, it would probably be easier to just take a screen shot, paste it into paint then save it as a JPEG. That's what I do when I want to upload a picture of my panels to a forum.

That's what I do when I > want to upload a picture of my panels to a forum. > Hey, there are plenty of choice for print2image printer drivers for Windows. If file size doesn't matter, I'd rather print out to "pdf printer". It's pretty WYSIWYG with Frontpanel Designer and works nice for DIY panels. I use the older version of the CutePDF (freeware - available from http://www.e-lini.net/download/cutepdfprinter.exe) as It's small and doesn't tag/watermark files. PDFCreator (http://www.pdfforge.org/products/pdfcreator) is much bigger piece of software, but then You can also print to other formats with variable resolution. Samppa

Oh yea - I forgot that macs have a really neat screen grab feature built in. So what panels did he want? --- In ModularSynthPanels@yahoogroups.com, "andrewlistmayer" <andrewlistmayer@...> wrote:
