I don't know if "mask" is the best word: The joystick movement has its limits and the borderline could define a circle or a squre. This is what I called mask. Doepfer joystick has a circular mask, which makes it impossible to get maximum X and Y values at the same time. On the other hand, Analogue Systems joystick has a square mask.
