Model 12 6dB/12dB knob

Model 12 6dB/12dB knob

2007-02-18 by jalmari3

The 6dB/12dB knob of my Model 12 does only microscopic changes to sound
past 12 o'clock. On the other hand, it is very sensitive from full
counter clockwise to 9 o'clock. I wonder, if this is this normal and if
I am getting full range of adjustment?

Do the newer M12:s have 1M pot instead of 100K?

M12 is my favourite filter, but the output level varies quite a lot
with different settings. For example, it seems a bit strange, that low
pass 6dB/oct is much quiter than 12dB/oct.

You will notice that when you start increasing the resonance, subtilties from the 12 o clock
to full CW region of the Bandwidth knob will start to show themselves. At low resonance
you won't hear thee quite so readily.

The change in Bandwidth pot value increases the amplutide of the first harmonic a bit.
Makes for a lisghtly fatter lowpass mode.

Thanks for your words on the filter...again, these are the types of comments that keep me
doing this.

In most situations (with my unit) I would call the difference between
12 o'clock and full clockwise settings very subtle. If anyone is
interested, here is a little test showing also some volume
differences:
http://www.esnips.com/doc/4f90400f-87e7-4632-9e73-
28bbf9281611/Plan_B_Model_12_test

- 440 Hz saw in
- Level at 12 o'clock
- Bandwith at full counter clockwise
- Frequency little past 10 o'clock (emphasizing 3rd partial)
- Resonance at max
- Q Low
- Lowpass output

00:00 As above - Quiet output.
00:02 Bandwith to 12 o'clock - Big differene in timbre and more
volume.
00:05 Bandwith to full clockwise - Very little difference.
00:08 Switch to Q High, which gives higher resonance frequency.
Turning Freguency knob counterclockwise to emphasize 3rd partial
again.
00:14 3rd partial found by setting Frequency knob at 9 o'clock -
Strong resonance.
00:16 Bandwith to 12 o'clock (from full clockwise) - Subtle
difference.
00:20 Bandwith to full counter clockwise - Very big difference in
timbre and quiet output again.
