Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Re: Recommended printer for 17-inch paper

2013-05-19 by Paul Roark

I assume that the newer 17" models are better than the 4000 with respect to
matte paper dmax. My 7800 is better than the 7600 was. But, a list member
still noticed that the dmax of his 4800 was not up to the 1400 -- likewise
for my 7800 v. 1400. I'm not sure if it is the 1.5 pl drop that gives the
1400 type it's dmax advantage or what. That said, I find my 7800 matte
paper dmax to be fine; not so with the 4000. So, I've generally been
pointing people to the 4800 for 17" Eboni-6, with the caveat that I've
never used a 4800.

At any rate, if 16x20 is your top size, I would probably avoid the 24"
printers. Having both, I find the 17" model easier to live with. Part of
it is just the space required, but I also like the paper tray setup.
