Re: [QuadtoneRIP] Recommended printer for 17-inch paper

2013-05-22 by Terry Ritz

I have been happily printing with 6KPlus on my 3800 for a number of months
now. I'm running 6 carbon dilutions along with Epson LC and LM for toning.
I've made up to a 16x24 gloss print without any issues. Here is what I've
been getting for Dmax with Eboni and MIS PK . . .

Eboni (matte)
Epson Hot Press Natural - L* 14.82 / Density 1.73
Canson Rag Photographique - L* 16.48 / Density 1.66

MIS PK (gloss)
Canson Platine - L* 3.34 / Density 2.43
Canson Baryta Photographique - L* 4.32 / Density 2.32 (not linearized)
Harman Gloss Baryta - L* 7.28 / 2.09 (not linearized)
Museo Silver Rag - L* 6.37 / 2.15 (not linearized)

Canson coatings and MIS PK play very well together as you can see. Eboni
does well on Rag Photographique and extremely well on Hot Press Natural.

My favourite combination these days is Eboni / 6KPlus on Epson Hot Press
Natural. On both of my most recent images I've had comments that they look
like charcoal or pencil drawings, which makes me smile. In part I suspect
that is due to the beautiful, deep, rich blacks Eboni produces on HPN. I'm
using a neutral curve I created. In part I suspect that is due to the way
I've processed the images.

Terry.
