I didn't uninstall everything either, the first time. The first time the
problem was installing printers. The second time the problem was installing
curves. That's when, at the suggestion of someone else, I uninstalled
everything first. A PITA, but at least it's a solution.

Tell me what software, especially login items, you had running at the time
and I'll compare it to what I usually have going. Maybe we can find the
culprit.

Do you use TypeIt4Me?
