Can you see the crow's feet sticking out of my mouth?
On a hunch, this time, with my current 1800 I _did_ use the curve layer and it made a huge difference. Now it looks like the print done on my previous 1800 _without_ that file.
In other words, things are behaving as they perhaps should have with my old 1800.
How do we explain that? I think I'm fairly intelligent, I swear that curve layer made very little difference previously.

I'm not using the Gray Gamma 22-toQTR.tif. I used to use it but somehow my prints have always been fine without it.
I you used that curve in the past and do not use it now, the current prints will be lighter than the older ones.Paul,___
