QTR GUI settings for 3MK-R1800?

QTR GUI settings for 3MK-R1800?

2013-10-25 by <paulmwhiting@...>

I'm using a different R1800 now and somehow my prints are lighter. Do these printers vary somewhat? My nozzle checks are good, the PK,MK and GLOP cartridges are using Eboni ink, the others contain Paul's C6b base fluid. I noticed the Advanced Settings are:

Ink Level: -20
Gamma: 0
Dither Algorithm: Ordered

I've never touched these, at least intentionally. Is this where they're supposed to be set? Oh, and I'm using QTR version 2.7.0.0.

I'm not using the Gray Gamma 22-toQTR.tif. I used to use it but somehow my prints have always been fine without it. Perhaps that's heresy!

My workflow on this particular print I'm printing is that I started with a color digital file and then adjusted the channels to 60/40/0 Monochrome. If necessary I'll pull in the ends of the Level Adjustment. But the print I made with my earlier R1800 has deeper blacks and more midtone contrast ... same file, I haven't changed it.

Paul,

I doubt they vary much.

I noticed the Advanced Settings are:

I've never used those. I assume when left at their defaults, the profiles print as they have alwasy printed.

I you used that curve in the past and do not use it now, the current prints will be lighter than the older ones.

Thanks, Paul.

Problem is, I don't know what the defaults are/were! As for the use of that curve, I didn't use it toward the end of my first 1800's lifespan... I know I didn't use it on this particular print, on both 1800's.

I'm ordering a set of black carts for the 1400 on Monday. I'm with you on these 1800's... I've been too stubborn!

Regards,

Paul

Paul,

Can you see the crow's feet sticking out of my mouth?

On a hunch, this time, with my current 1800 I _did_ use the curve layer and it made a huge difference. Now it looks like the print done on my previous 1800 _without_ that file.

In other words, things are behaving as they perhaps should have with my old 1800.

How do we explain that? I think I'm fairly intelligent, I swear that curve layer made very little difference previously.

'Tis a puzzlement. Anyway, my apologies everyone...
